Random shutdown for no reason

My 2003 Fujitsu Lifebook N3010 randomly shuts down for no particular reason. I'm running on clean AC power, the harddrive is new, the vents are clean, the fan is functioning properly, and I'm using an auxiliary cooling fan/base. It happens randomly when doing normal stuff and especially when running games [halo, etc].

I'm a little skeptical that this is a processor overheating problem. Could there be other causes, like my RAEDON 9000 GA card?

specs> 512MB/60GB 2.66 ghz

thanks

    Thanks for your quick reply.

I hate to ask a stupid question, but how do I access the 0x000000 message?

Tends to happen when several processes are running simultaneously, but definitely not more than the machine should be able to handle. Unfortunately, it has also happened when I'm staring at the desktop and doing nothing. Also, sometimes it's fine for hours.

It's hot in the upper righthand corner where the fan vent is, but not alarmingly so. Warm would be a better word.

I can watch CPU usage spike (typically when watching a video or listening to music, but at other times, too), then the fan cranks up to full speed, then I know it's only a few seconds 'til the machine just turns off.

There are no error messages then, or on reboot.

Blast compressed air into the vent on the upper right hand side or back. I had the same problem. It was due to dust buildup on the cooling vents. The vents are connected so if you blast the air through the back you should see the dust shooting our the side.

Is the laptop hot?

Would you say the reboots are totally random, or more only when you have several programs (or large memory eating programs open)?

If you disable automatic restarting you will see the BSOD that is causing the problem.

Right Click My Computer
Click Properties
Click Advanced
Click Settings (For startup and recovery)
Uncheck the "Automaticaly restart " box.

Run your game, and report back the 0x000000 mesassage :)

Need to replace a keyboard on a Fujitsu Lifebook N3010. Dropped beer on it. Now some of the keys aren't working. Would like detailed inst's on how to crack this comp open.

I have stripped many laptops down and to remove keyboard is reasonably complex and replacements are also expensive. Dowload a manual off the net is the best and follow instructions to the letter. Ther isnt enough room here to describe the procedure.

Lifebook N3010 turns itself off after about 5-10 minutes. Do you think it could be the cpu fan? Any quick fixes?

thermal shutdown. more robust electrical insides (19volt/6.3amp draw; more than most for sure!),
so you get way more heat, bigger louder harder working fan, etc....a bit too much, and selfsafety circuit kicks everything off. it uses a desktop cpu, so that's more heat that otherwise a desktop could handle.

How to remove hard drive from Fujitsu Lifebook N3010 PC laptop

Remove the DVD drive, and then there are 4 outer screws holding the hard drive chassis in place. There are also 4 inner screws that hold the hard drive to the removable hard drive chassis, those do not have to be removed to remove the hard drive from the computer. Carefully remove the screws so they don't fall into the holes on the sides of the screws, and then slide the hard drive out of the pin slots.
