Can you provide a more detailed description of the vertical problem you are seeing? There are a number of defective parts that can cause different symptoms. Few vertical problems are adjustments. Most are either poor solder connections or defective parts. The parts cost should be minimal.

Please confirm you model number here and try to provide more details on the problem.

Thanks,
Dan

We have a Mitsubishi VS-50VA2 projection tv. The picture is very dim and the color is faded. Even after adjusting the brightness to the max, it is still dim. What do I need to do to fix this?

you need to clean the dust off lamps and the guns, if you don't know how. i can walk you thru it. but i would suggest having a repair shop do a full cleaning.

Mitsubishi VS 50707 ( not 705)

I have the same TV built in 99. My problem is similar but the vertical hold gives out when the tv warms up about 5 minutes. I will attempt to locate the vertical hold circuit and replace any parts I suspects may be the problem. I suspect a cap is leaking or transitor around IC700 is degrading when warm.

This symptom is typical of the infamous PIP module with the leaky
electrolytics. If the corrosion has not become so bad that the board is
unrepairable, you can change all of the surface mount caps and clean up the corrosion

Vertical rolling

Does you set have PIP (picture in picture)? If it does then the PIP module has a bunch of capacitors that have gone bad (dried out and leaked) causing you to loose vertical sync. Vertical synchronization is what locks your picture keeping it from rolling. Even if you don't have PIP then still you have a vertical sync problem. The set would have to be checked by a tech to find exactly what's happening. Stargazer

Picture has horiz. lines

There is no vertical hold in the tv circuits now adays. You may find a vertical center or a vertical height. Your problem sounds like (if it has PIP Thats Picture in Picture) its in the PIP module and its a small module that stands up and most models of Mistubishi this module is no longer availabvle. The problem with the module is the small pana caps are leaking and ruins the PC traces. I have heard that theres a kit available on E-Bay to jump out this module. Now if its not the PIP model then it could be a few capacitors in the vertical sweep circuit. Also the B+ feed off the Flyback that supplies voltage to the vertical output IC could have a bad or leaky capacitor in the circuit. If your not a tech or solid state troubleshooter theres not much you can do and SHOULD take this set in to a repair center. Good Luck
