Question about Kenmore 63942 Dryer

Kenmore Dryer stopped running

I have an old Kenmore Dryer Model # 110 86673800.  I recently had to replace the element and then about a week ago the timer quit working and we have to manually turn dryer off by opening the door.  Today my daughter forgot to turn the dryer off and left it running for about 4 hours.  The lint filter was full (we had been drying blankets) and she said that she opened the door to stop it, however when I came home to put a load of clothes in to dry the dryer will not start when you push the button.  The light does come on on the inside and I did check the breaker prior to that and both appear to be fine.  Is there a way to reset this dryer?  Where should Iook from here?

Re: Kenmore Dryer stopped running

This sounds like you may have blown the thermal fuse.  If you turn the dryer around facing the back, remove the screws holding the back panel on (be sure to unplug the pigtail from the wall!!!).  When you remove the back panel, down towards the bottom, you will see a plastic piece (could be long and square, or rounded type.  Do believe it will be the long type) with 2 wires going to it.  It has a screw that holds it it.  This fuse protecs the unit and motor from excess heat and electrical issues.

Kenmore dryer, heat element ALWAYS on

Good day,
Sounds as if the element inside the canister has shorted to the canister body. You will have to remove the element to check it. I'll include a tutorial on how.
If that doesn't resolve the issue, please reply back.. Whirlpool makes Kenmore dryers.

P.S. Look close. It doesn't take much....

Maytag Atlantis electric dryer Model

Check the following to address this issue.

1. No power to the dryer
Make sure there's power getting to the dryer. Check for tripped circuit breakers or blown fuses. An electric dryer uses two circuit breakers or fuses, and if only one of two is tripped or blown, the dryer might still run but not heat. Sometimes the power cord disconnects or burns at the dryer, if this is the case, the wiring and the terminal block must be repaired or replaced.

2. Heating element
A burned out heating element will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Replace the element if found defective.

3. Thermal fuse
Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.

Dryer not hot

Tht means that the element is not heating on.

You need to call a technician to test the element, the thermic sensor, and the control assembly.

The most likely is a defective heating element, that must be replaced.

Should I replace t-stats and/or hi-limits and thermal cutouts?

i have fixed thousands of dryers over the years and the element shorting to ground is a rare ocurance.if you are loosing elements this fast it is due too your ducting as i think you know.and your replacement of the flex with hard ducting will surly aid in that cause.too answer your question, sure the thermo's will have been weakened but i have seen the same thermo's on 15,20 year old dryers ,so they can take some punishment.i owned an appliance repair buissness for ten years and after market wholesale thermo's were about 3$ each so if could find at that kind of price ,ok.other wise may be looking at 30 to 40$ and i dont see it making your dryer much safer then is with out new. God bless, hope that helps, tom

Kenmore Elec Dryer Won't Heat up

Sounds like either a faulty thermostat or heating element. Both are accessed from the lower right backside of the dryer behind a metal door. Be CAUTIOUS, the edges can be sharp and cut you very easily. Good luck.
