Hello,
I want to upgrade my RAM up to 2Gb. I've bought 2 modules of Kingmax 1Gb DDR1 PC3200 400Mhz. When I put both modules the system is not stable and restarts randomly after a while. If I put one module of 1Gb(I've tested both of them this way) and one module of 512Mb the system works fine. Please help me to upgrade to 2Gb. Thank you.Daniel
I've run CPU Z program and it reports 1984 Gb RAM (64Mb it's reserved for video sharing ) I've tested system stability from Everest and the system restarts when I put 2 1Gb modules. )I've run CPU Z program and it reports 1984 Gb RAM (64Mb it's reserved for video sharing ) I've tested system stability from Everest and the system restarts when I put 2 1Gb modules. )
The only thing dont do it untill now it's to try the beta version of BIOS 0501 from Asus, but I'm afraid that I broke it for good :)The only thing dont do it untill now it's to try the beta version of BIOS 0501 from Asus, but I'm afraid that I broke it for good :)
Add a CommentHello, I've succeed to make it run with 2 modules of 1Gb but at 333Mhz instead of 400Mhz. I think that's the maximum frequency for my MB to be stable :) Thank you for your support. PS: I've replaced the 2 modules with another ones and now the MB runs with 2Gb at 400Mhz. So the memories were bad. Thank you again .Daniel :)PS: I've replaced the 2 modules with another ones and now the MB runs with 2Gb at 400Mhz. So the memories were bad. Thank you again .Daniel :)

I've run Everest and it sees only a total of 1983 Mb of Ram, but on slots it sees two of 1024Mb. At POST I have 1984 Mb RAM tested. This is the only problem I've saw in Everest hardware reports. Does the BIOS have a memory checker program? Or maybe download Memtest and burn it to a bootable CD, run it and see where the discrepancy is with the 1984 reported RAM.Does the BIOS have a memory checker program? It will be compatible but it is recommended, you use same type of modules(RAM) ie 256 MB + 256 MB 1GB + 1GB Plus the advantage of using two instead of one(If you want 2GB, go for 1-1Gb two modules, depends on you) are, if one fails other works.
Hi, Thanks for the details. I have used K8V-MX Asus motherboard and found it very reliable with quite reasonable performance. It definately supports 500 GB Sata drive and there must not be any issues after increasing just the storage. However, Operating System upgrade may result in sluggish performance. Drivers dont seem to be an issue to me either. I suggest to review a few points detailed as under: - - K8V-MX Asus Supports RAID, so, check for any RAID Drivers/ settings. (You dont have to use RAID for two Hard Drives of different make, capacity and speed). Try using one disk at a time having same Operating System (e.g. Windows XP) and compare the performance. - Infact SATA Drives have better data transfer rate than IDE, which results in enhanced performance. - Some Programs (that you may not be using with 80GB drive) Like antivirus may result in decreased performance. - Please Review you Operating System environment and software installed. Make sure that the new drive & Operating System are free of any virus, which results in CPU Utilization upto 100%. - Also, motherboard supports Max 2GB RAM, so you may consider adding more RAM.
Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required. Hope it helps! Good Luck! CreativeTECH
Number of Memory Slots: 2×184pin + 2×240pin
Memory Standard: DDR 400/DDR2 533
Maximum Memory Supported:2GB
PC6400(DDR2 800) is not supported by your motherboard. Also max memory is 2GB. PC4200 is the fastest memory you can install. There might be a BIOS update available from ASUS website to increase the speed but you would have to check the site.
with rams, if the memory it has is higher than that of your cpu, the pc will not boot up or if it is too low compared to your cpu again.
thus, you say it has got two slots right, remove both of the 512's and insert the 1gig only, run your computer, i am sure it will boot up nicely. switch it off. put one 512, if it does not boot then you should know that your ram has an excess of memory that your cpu could not apprehend to.
*********** board is Asus old p4 Mother board. It supports maximum 1GB RAM of DDR 400(DDR1). According to your post your computer having only one 512 MB working RAM. If you want good purformance you can upgrade your computer by purchasing another 512MB DDR400 RAM and install it on another RAM slot.If your computer have only one working RAM slot, you can purchase 1GB DDR400 RAM & install it on older RAM place. I think it solves your problem.if you have any problem come back with more information. I will try to assist you more accurately.
Look into you're manual, go to pages 1-11 & 1-12.
The memory listed here has been tested by Asus to work correctly in the K8V-MX motherboard. In order for you to reach 2GB memory you will need DS memory. Double sided. This means there is 512MG on each side of a single DIMM, hence 2x1x 512MB DIMM equals 1GB. So you will need 4x 512MB to raxhl a total memory of 2GB. Please stay within the recommended memory listed on the Qualified Vendor List (QVL).
Simptronics memory it not on the QVL list. From time to time some memory not one the list may still function. This is not one of those times.
