Sharp DVD disc error

When I insert a compatible DVD-RW disk in my Sharp DV-RW340U, it does not finish loading.  Istead gives me Error "Please eject.  Playback feature may not be available on this disk."

If I push REC, I get error #24 Cannot Record.

Thank you for your help.

I looked through the DV-RW340U/350U manual for the 4-digit code. Whew, that manual is packed. What I found was a Language code list with English = 5160. Not sure if this is the code you were looking for. Let me know and I'll do some more searching.

Thats rjkyay's but 5160 did not work. I'll keep looking.

We've had the same problems with our Sharp DV-RW340U. Did anyone ever find out what the remote code is for this unit? We're trying to our Dish Network unit.

Also, I've gotten the DVD-RW 4x discs & I get the same error message. Sharp Tech support told me to "route the cable signal through the player". He said the error message is because nothing is on the disc - should still be able to record. We don't have the remote code, so haven't been able to try it.

I have a "DV-RW340". I have the same problem. I bought Memorex 4x DVD-RW - didn't work. This type of disc works, but no longer available ANYWHERE:

    Panasonic DVD-R 4x Disc LM-RF120LU

I understand that these also work:

    Samsung DRG47250CKN

But I can't find these anywhere either. Does anyone know of a SPECIFIC disc type (DVD-RW preferred) that works and where they can be purchased?

I've found out that the recording speed is important for this model. The speed on the dvd must be 4x or less. If your using an 8x or 16x it will not work. Hope this helps.

Maybe you can help me. I'm looking for the 4 digit code that goes into the remote to make it compatible. I think it's in the operators manual, which I no longer have. If you can find this number I would really appreciate it.

Thanks rjkyay. I tried the code 5160 and that number also does not work. I'll keep looking.

Also rjkyay did you try recording on a DVD-R 4X speed disc? If this works then it maybe your DVD-RW disc is the problem. I just looked at my DVD-RW disc and it is 2X write speed. That speed is important. The newer players can record on faster discs, but not this one.

Very interesting. It fails for me with DVD-R 16x discs, fair enough, but also with DVD-RW 2x discs, so what next?

Try using a DVD / CD cleaner disc in the unit - this might fix the problem - I had the same format error on a Toshiba unit using Sony and VBerbatim discs - once cleaned the unit worked fine

ensure you are using DVD-R not DVD+R discs. if what you are attempting the record is copyright protected, depending on the protection, you may not be able to record.

Sharp DV-RW340 Compatible Discs

I have had great success with Dynex Model DX-DVD-R25.  They are specifically: 4x  120min.  4.7gb. It's a spindle of 25.   The UPC Code is 00603 10116.  Now I'm searching for more myself!   These discs have worked well for me and play great in other DVD players, as well.  If you find 'em... please post it here!

Disc error

I have this same problem so I called Sharp.  This model is  a little older.  When you buy the disks there is a number with an X after it.  If you buy the - R disk the number has to be 4X or less,  for the -RW it has to 2X or less.  Apparently they can still be bought at Office Depot or online.
