Your bike has a carbration problem in that it has debris in the carb. What you must do to correct this is completely remove the carb, then take off the float bowl. it is on the bottom of the carb and is rectangular with 4 phillips head screws. once the screws are out, lightly tap the bowl with the handle of your screwdriver to get it loose. Empty this bowl (it will be full of gas/water/junk) and wash it out with new clean gasoline or a spray carb cleaner form the auto parts store. There will also be two jets in the center of the carb, they are gold in color. spray these out with the cleaner or compressed air. The holes in them are very tiny and must be cleared out. Once you have this clean, reassemble and the bike should run like new. If the gas tank has any debris in it, this problem will come back unless you install a filter. best wishes!

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

No info on your first concern as it would have to be addressed on the same condition, weather, ambient temperature.

On the small hose:

  • if it is small diameter and connected to the lowest part (bowl) of the carb right after a recessed screw, then it would be a drain hose;
  • if it were slightly bigger and connected mid of the carb (above the bowl), then it would be an overflow hose.
Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Hi, I bought a brand new Keeway Outlook 125 jusy 5 weeks ago. Since I bought i had problems when starting it so they put in a new carburator that had a new automatic choke on it. I still have problems...

Is it normal that a new bike dies on you as you drive it? No way my friend. The carburetor should have a thermal-choke and it probably needs some adjustment.

START & AVERAGE PROBLEM- HONDA UNICORN

I think the age of the bike gives a clue to what might be wrong. I'm guessing that either the rubbers on the vacuum carb slides have gone bad or the intake manifolds are old and cracked, or both. At any rate they are worth a good check. Be very careful if you have to remove the carb rack there are some delicate and expensive fuel feeder tubes between the carbs that are easily broken.

My 03 wr450f ran fine for me last summer...I let it set for a good 6 months...went to crank it the other day... I do race it and it still will fly on top end speeds but it will hardly idle now and back...

You need to remove the carburetor ,take the bowl off, and locate the slow speed jet/circuit and clean it with carb cleaner and blow through it. Once the dirt or varnish is removed it should start and idle like before.

The first startup in the morning is hard, and I need to give it some gas to turn over. However it starts up fine for the rest of the day! Whats up?

first off, is it fuel injected or does it have a carbarater, if it's carbarated then it sound's like a sticking choke, try spraying choke cleaner in and around the carbarater while operating the mechanisims to free up the choke plate.,,good luck

Last time I STARTED MY VSTAR 1100 I CHOKED IT FOR 10 SECONDS ON HIGH THEN MOVED TO MEDIUM CHOKE FOR 4 THEN TOOK OFF AT NO CHOKE. 2 WEEKS LATER. I started up bike Choke on high bike barely wanted to idle...

Sounds like your flooding it out with the choke out. Try the next time you go to start the bike when it's cold with the choke out and when it starts push the choke all the way in and keep it running with the throtle. If it runs better after doing this then your flooding it on start up. Use 1/2 choke to start cold and see what it does. Good Luck

Bike will start but quits as soonas I put it in gear

Starts and quits? No assuning - Gas? Spark?, Air?Choke Open? Will it eun with partial choke? Fuel filter restriction causes slow loss of power or sensation of running out of fuel. Electrical is go or no go, and quits suddenly like the key was turned off.. So I don't think its electrical. No assuming. double ck all and bypas fuel filter for testing.. Good luck. Double ck fuel valve.

Bike smokes when

Hey Alan, you did'nt say what mileage but i suspect high mileage on a 1980 bike. A compression test is easy on a 2 cylinder and will probably result in a low reading on the side that smokes. Also the chke could be closing tighter on the carb on the smokey side causing too much fuel to enter and also cause smoking....The short time you need to choke a bike in summer is a small price to pay on a bike that old...so ride and enjoy, you're not damaging anything by riding it that way...by the way, i love those old Yammer 650s...Good Luck to you friend.....Tim
