Power management related query

In my laptop I am using Broadcam Ethernet adapter,I have software whose license is linked with MAC ID of this card. Sometimes when I start software ,it shows license file not found. When I analysed the issue ,I understood whenever the power plug for the laptop is removed I am getting this problem. In network connections window the Network card disappears as soon as the power connection is removed For this same problem with other Intel network adaptors I disabled a property called "Deep smart power down" in the network card properties menu and the problem got solved. But I am not able find the option in Broadcam network card properties.

Some system have a BIOS settings like these. There are 2 options affecting the NIC. LAN/WLAN switching and LAN power save. Are both LAN power save and LAN/WLAN switching enabled?

On my laptop, it does the same thing as your computer when its on battery (HP laptop) except when there is an ethernet cable plugged in or loopback. I made a little loopback plug to keep the port active even when it is unplugged.

Wont hook to the enternet

The Ethernet adapter may be conflicting or competing with the wireless adapter for the Internet connection. Try turning off the wireless adapter. You can either disable it in device manager, or some HP laptops have a button next to the screen that will turn it off. If you don't get an Internet connection, restart the laptop and try again.

If that doesn't help, I would suspect the Ethernet adapter driver is faulty. Check it under device manager. If it has a yellow exclamation point, question mark, or is not listed, the driver needs to be installed or reinstalled. If it simply has a red X on it, enable the adapter.

If the Ethernet adapter is fine, try a different Ethernet cable. If THAT doesn't help, it's probably software related.

A firewall may be keeping you from browsing. Some firewalls may see the Ethernet connection as an entirely different connection than the wireless one. Try disabling all firewalls.

Thanks

Hi. i have an ibm t40 running wit winxp sp2. i can't connect to internet with my ethernet card. i have an error that shows "intel pro 100 network connection" is either damaged or absent. But i know that it...

It's possible you have a damaged network adapter. Depending on if it's built in or an add on will determine how to proceed.

If it's an add on take it out of the computer and remove all the software and drivers. Go to Device manager and make sure it's out of there too. Now reinstall the software and drivers then reinstall the network adapter.

If your adapter is built in you need to start by disabling the adapter on the mother board. This is done in the BIOS/CMOS setup. Enter your BIOS setup as your computer is booting up, if your unfamiliar with this be very careful changing the wrong setting can have dire consequences. After disabling the adapter follow the previous instructions for removing and reinstalling the software and drivers. After this is done reactivate your network adapter, your computer should reconize and reinstall the adapter.

This should have you up and running unless the adapter is damaged.

No Internet With New Router, Computer, or Adapter

This document is relevant if you had an Internet connection, but lost it when: * Adding a router to your network, or * Using a different Ethernet adapter card or computer than the one your ISP used during installation. Use ISP Configuration to see whether you need to "spoof a MAC address" to connect to your ISP. If so, follow the instructions in this document. If the Ethernet card that was used during ISP installation is not available, you may need to register the new Ethernet card's MAC address with your ISP for the following to work. MAC address stands for Media Access Control address (not "Macintosh computer"!), a unique number built into modems, routers and other network hardware. It ensures that one piece of equipment is not mistaken for another one. Some ISPs validate your connection by checking the MAC address of the Ethernet adapter in computer that was registered during ISP installation. If you add a router or change computer or Ethernet adapter, these ISPs will drop your Internet connection, because they find the MAC address of the newly added router or adapter, instead of the one they expect. To fix this, change the router to report the Ethernet adapter's MAC, instead of its own. This is called "spoofing the MAC address". To find a PC's or Macintosh's MAC address, see How to Find an Adapter's MAC address : http://www.fixya.com/ThreadView.aspx?prdid=252225&thid=102075. To Spoof a MAC Address 1. Connect the computer that your ISP's installers used to establish Internet connection to the router. If you are unsure which computer was used, call your ISP, and ask what MAC address was registered. Then, using the instructions in the box below find the computer whose MAC address matches their records. 2. Disconnect other computers from the router. (If you do not want to disconnect other computers, you need to know the adapter's MAC address, as described in the box below. Then, in step 6, type Use This MAC Address, entering the adapter's address.) 3. In an Internet browser type the address 192.168.0.1. 4. Type admin for the username, password for the password, and click OK. 5. Go to the Basic Settings > Router Mac Address. 6. Select Use Computer MAC Address. 7. Click Apply. This automatically gives the router the computer's MAC address. 8. Click Test to make sure you are connected. If you are not connected, contact your ISP.
