Eureka Model 4351 vacuum - motor runs but no sction.

The motor works but I don't feel any suction when I put my hand under the revolving brush.  Also if I let it stay on vary long it gets hot quickly and starts to have a burning smell.  I have checked the long hose and it is not clogged.  I have also unscrewed the plate holding the short hose at the lower rear of the unit and checked it for clogs.  It is also clear.

I am a renter and the directions for the unit are not here.  Can I download a manual for it including troubleshooting informatin

I have fantom cyclone xt and have the same problem as above , checked the rear compartment air shaft and find no blockage. There is some suction thru the hose but there never was much there. The brush and motor run and I can hear the brush pick up stuff but it never seems to get the removal bin and the motor gets hot.

Thanx TIM ALLEN, LOL

I saw this kind of vacuum on a sidewalk, someone didn't want it anymore. I checked it out and it wasn't sucking from the motor brush. I check the small hose at the lower rear of the unit and it was totally clog. I cleaned it well and it was working again. Poor vacuum it just needed a little TLC. But I discovered when the dust bag cover isn't close correctly (or if theres any leak ) there will be no sucktion what so ever. Make sure that the vacuum bag cover is sitted well...hope this help.

On my vacuum the "vacuum fan" (my name for the part which creats the suction) broke off the motor shaft. The vacuum sounded like it was working, but there was no suction. If you are sure there are no clogs (drop a marble down any hoses you can't see through), then this is the likely cause.

Hi and welcome to Fixya. I am Kelly.

You have correctly identified the problem as the brush roll itself.

There is a bearing under each end cap of the brush roll. You can gain access to the bearings usually by gripping the browah roll end caps and rotate the caps in opposing but loosening (ccw rt / cw left) directions.

Many times I have found that there is just a mass of hair under the end cap that functions like a brake. Clean it up really well on under BOTH end caps.

Do a spin test by putting the end caps back on (Hold it horizontal) and rotating the brush roll with your thumbs. It should spin freely.

If it feels like there is still friction then your probably going to have to take the brush roll with you down to the nearest vacuum cleaner repair / supply shop and get 2 new bearings. Most shops will install the NEW bearings for you if you have the brush roll in hand. It is a much cheaper fix than the brush roll itself.

(buy a new belt too!)

Take care

Eureka rm 4480

Hi there SmartAlec from . Unless there is a bad sound coming from your vacuum i would suggest you have a blockage. This machine is prone to getting blockages in 3 different places.
  1. at the base behind the brush.
  2. Inside the main suction hose - this should be removeable so you can drop a small coin through. If it doesnt fall easily viola blockage found.
  3. Where the dirt enteras the chamber or bag.
Basically start by removing all hoses and filters and turn machine on put your hand over all inlet and exit points provided you can feel airflow at one of these points work backwards from there and identify the point at which you no longer feel airflow.
HAPPY vacuuming !

The suction on my eureka optima stopped working but the roller still works, what might i do to fix it?

Hi there. Most suction problems are due to a blockage. Start with the base and look carefully for debris that is stopping air flow. You may have to remove the base plate to get to the problem. I am including a link to the manual for your machine. look on page four so see how to remove the base and check for blocked airways.

I have the Eureka Whirlwind upright vacuum. All of a sudden there is no suction- the hose has suction but not main part. I have no idea- but the brush part is not turning??? should I get a new vacuum or...

If the belt isn't turning then it has snapped. Check the top of the hood for two or three crosshead screws; two at the front and one under neath by the left hand side if looking at the upright from the front. Its easy to fix if you take your time and you have a spare drive belt. Check EBAY in your country for spares.

After you put a new belt on make sure the roller beater is completely free of threads as this will keep the belt longer for running.

Buckaboo, you say the debris no longer collects in the cup? Does that mean you don't have suction as well?

The brushroll has it's own motor so the brushes spinning doesn't necessarily mean there's not a problem with the wiring, the switch, or the motor.

Assuming you haven't inadvertantly set the selector switch to floor when you wanted to use the hose or vice versa, try the following.

Start with the motor/impeller first. Take the dust canister off and turn the vacuum on. It doesn't matter if you turn on the brushroll or not as you're looking for suction.

With the vacuum on feel for exhaust out the front of the motor (by the secondary handle on the bottom. Also put your hand over the area where the dust canister sits. You should feel strong exhaust and suction respectively.

If not, then you should take it in to a technician as going any further requires disassembly.

If you feel there's enough suction, then it may be as simple as a clog. This vacuum has a particularly easy air path to check. There's a clear snap-on door on the bottom to check the brushroll and neck. Then from there it's a straight shot through the canister itself before dumping inside and going through the filter. If it's the hose, you can turn the end clockwise to remove it from the body of the vacuum and use a broomstick to clear any clogs.

If it's not a clog or filter then you may try cleaning the seals (one round at the bottom of the canister where the canister mates to the body and a rectangular one in back of that where the dust runs up and into the canister.

Good Luck!

Low suction on Eureka spinduster vacuum cleaner

The belt has stretch enough so as to not drive the brush roll under load. Try a new belt.
