Re: unit not powering up

There is a fuse located behind the control panel.

If that is good, or replacing it does not fix it, you may have a problem with the control panel, which we repair nationwide for $39.95.

We have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info (as well as a text file which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems) at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa:

No power dead

power outages cause power surges and will damage electronic control boards. I suggest replacing the Control board and checking the interlocking door switches. Whilst inside the microwave check the magnetron for discoloration around the magnetron horn or gun as it were. If it don't look clean and new, otherwise burnt it's bad !

Loud popping noise after being plugged into 50 amp power source possible power surge unit in rv unit light still works but no power to make unit work.

What happens a lot in these RV microwaves is that a surge will damage the circuit board and sometimes also blow the low voltage transformer.

These are problems we can usually take care of for $39.95 and $54.95 respectively.

You can get more information here.

R-8350, No power to touchpad, but interior light works

The touchpad has its own fuse which has probably blown due to a surge perhaps related to the turning on of the fridge. Removing the cover from a microwave is potentially lethal due to the large capacitor to drive the magnetron. However, this is usually well away from the front panel. If you do venture in you should first unplug the unit and when the outer cover is removed, discharge the large capacitor with well insulated pliers -= otherwise keep well away from it. The fuse you are interested in is on the pc board behind the touchpad. Replace it with exactly the same fuse (usually a slow blow fuse).

Micro 6654438991 power surge from pole, light works, panel dead

Sounds like you should get estimates and turn in on homeowners insurance. Power surges are very destructive and you have lost the control board at least and maybe some switches. Eric

All 88888's on display after power outage can't program anything,

I bet you did not have a surge suppressor on it. Just checking.
Your PC board is damaged.

Next time you need a surge suppression.

I have one for $39.00 for this unit.

Microwave won't work. The time is frozen, buttons dont work.

I have over 20 years experience with microwaves and over 25 with all other electronics, and I'll have to say it sounds to me also like some kind of power surge "scrambling" its "brains".

Or possibly its power is being interrupted for a fraction of a second and having the same effect.

A microwave should really be on its own circuit breaker.

Microwave ovens, refrigerators, toasters, and electric ovens are very high current devices.

There are power line (mains) surges created when they cycle on and off.

If the microwave can't be on its own breaker, then maybe you can try a power strip with a surge suppressor, or better yet, a power strip with a surge suppressor and a built-in noise filter.

Or it may be that there is a subtle bad connection on the circuit board or at the fuse holder.

These kinds of problems are difficult to diagnose, and even harder to do remotely. Especially since I'm in the US! *grin*

I would strongly suggest that if you can't cure this with a surge strip or similar, please carefully document when and how it fails, then while it is in a failed state, open the door (to keep it from starting on its own) and call Sharp customer service at 1300 13 50 22.

Or you could visit here and click on Service Centre Location search.

You should have a one year warranty, so you should get in touch with a Sharp-authorized repair center.

An over the range type will include home visits in the warranty, but not if it's a counter top model.

You'd have to take that type to the shop yourself, and of course that would mean unplugging it, which would reset it, and the repairman may never see if fail.

If you wait too long, your warranty will be expired, so I'd get in touch with the shop.

Good luck.

Removal from a motorhome

We regularly repair the circuit boards of microwave which are hit by storm surges, etc.

This repair usually runs $39.95 to $64.95, depending on if we have to replace the low power transformer. I just thought I'd mention this if you're interested.

But if you've decided on replacing it, the installation manual should be helpful in removing it from the wall. See it here.

You will need the free Acrobat Reader to view or print it.
