You can't order memory for an LCD screen. Can you give me the model number of your computer so I can tell you which type of memory you might need. Ordering it from newegg probably is cheapest but just don't want you to order the wrong type.

What manufacturer?

What model-number?

What speed of CPU?
Check the manufacturer's web-site for the list of "supported" CPUs -- maybe, you can install a faster one.

I have an old packard bell D1000 multimedia intelpentium, 133mh prcessor,1.2gb hard disk,32mb ram.33600bps modem 8x cd rom, what can be upgraded if any. I only use it for grandchildren but would like to...

rm,

Most likely, more RAM (memory) will help. That computer can hold a maximum of 128MB or RAM.

The EDO memory for that computer is no longer manufactured.
[72-pin EDO SIMM]

Used memory and possibly non-moving inventory are available.
Any such memory would be at a much HIGHER cost than current memory. (64MB is around $50)

I know you didn't ask for a recommendation; however,
1.) I recommend that you NOT upgrade the memory.
Even if the computer is upgraded to the max, it will still have similar performance issues.
Here is a link to a memory supplier;
or google: ""packard bell" d1000 memory"

2.) Consider a $275 Compaq computer from Office Depot - fully modern computer with DVD / CD, 2GB memory, Windows 7, AMD processor.
I know that's a lot of money for the purpose; however, it may be today's best bargain.

I want to upgrade my HP5170 laptop, does anyone know what i would need to "fix it up" a bit & cost wise is it worth it or just get a new laptop? thanks

It totally depend on your needs. If your processing needs are higher you can upgrade the processor, otherwise upgrading the RAM and hard disk will do.

Upgrading your system is a better idea than buying a new one.

Speed Of Computer

the PC is most likely bloated with lots of useless software, viruses, malware etc, but upgrading ram will give the biggest increase in performance, I would reccoment atleast 1 GB for windows XP systems and 2 GB for windows vista systems.

A ram upgrade could help, however you may need to think about upgrading your CPU also. First check if you can upgrade your CPU. Your best option may be to upgrade to a new computer altogether.

Is it worth replacing pentium 4 1.7ghz with 3ghz one

The 3 GHz socket 478 processor will cost you about $90 shipped. Not worth upgrading for that cost in my opinion, when you can buy a whole new computer for $400 new, or a much better computer for 1/2 that used.

System speed

Your CPU speed depends on your front side bus speed. Overclock is an option but never recommended. The upgrading ram is cheapest and most noticable upgrade you can do. If your do want to upgrade your computer i would recommend upgrading ram. Remember any computer with a 32-bit processor can only reconize 4 gig's of ram.

Upgrading my laptop processor

When you're running an average load, start Task Manager and view the performance tab. If the amount of free RAM is low, then definately upgrade your RAM. Plus, nowadays it's really cheap to upgrade ram.
As far as upgrading your processor, that can get a little tricky and expensive.
Also, what do you mainly use your computer for, and what operating system do you use?
