Question about Emerson Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

'Start' button won't depress, seems jammed; timer knob broke off

Emerson Microwave, with turntable. Model AR733, produced in 1986 (purchased at that time) 1) The 'start' button seems to be jammed, it will no longer depress. As if something is preventing it to push into the appliance, something is 'blocking' it. Thus, it will not operate. 2) Also, the timer knob broke off (hard handling), can that be replaced? Other than the two items of concern, after 22 years, this appliance works wonderful. Help?

The button is stuck because of food buildup over the years underneath the button, this happens even to newer ones after about a year of use, new microwaves are cheap and the lower end models start at only $35 from walmart I would reccomend buying a new one, newer microwaves use less power and are more effecient so a new one will pay for itself in saved electricty costs after about 2-3 years of use.

I have a model number EM925RSL-B and the timer counts down but it does not heat up or turntable does not move?

I just bought an RV with the exact same microwave and the exact same problem. The problem with mine is the switch that detects that the door is closed is not getting activated. The reason for this is is the finger at the top of the door is damaged as well as the plastic piece that the finger grabs onto when the door is closed. This causes the finger not to come into contact with the switch. To test this you can turn your microwave on and start it. open the door and using a small screwdriver, depress the micro switch you can see upper right side of the door opening. then press start again. your turntable will start turning and the microwave will make a louder noise as a fan will turn on. CAUTION! Release the button as soon as you see the turntable rotation as you will be receiving microwave energy due to the door being opened.

My Emerson still runs when the cycle is over I have to prop the door open so it will not run

Door switches

If one of the door interlock switches is not switching properly or there is a condensation problem on the sensor control panel, either can cause the turntable/light/oven to come on even though the "Start" button has not been depressed due to the wiring of the switches.
Check for faulty door switches and/or contaminated actuators.
I hope that helps.

I need a turntable part for my emerson microwave Model # MW8106W I need part #1170650 its a black plastic part that fits over the turning mechanism, it seems to be discontinued

That would be the turntable coupler.

That part number isn't showing up, so it may not be available, or that might not be the right part number.
