Distorted picture on Sampo 42" monitor

Hello,

I have a problem with my Sampo 42" monitor. I have had this unit for about 4 years and it worked fine until about a few months ago. When I first turn the monitor on, the picture seems fine with the exception of a few small white lines flashing horizontally accross the screen. After about 5 to 10 minutes the picture turns into a mosaik effect with 13 white vertical lines spaced approximately 2.5 inches apart. However, the white lines disapear again after a while, but the mosaik effect remains. When I turn the monitor off and then on again, the picture is OK for about 5 minutes and then the same thing starts all over again. If you have seen this before, please let me know what the problem could be and if this can be fixed. The monitor is mounted in a corner of two walls and kind of difficult to remove, but it can be done.

Thank you,  RD

    Hello again,

I still have a problem with my Sampo 42" monitor. When I first turn the monitor on, the picture seems fine with the exception of a few small white lines flashing horizontally across the screen. After about 5 to 10 minutes the picture turns into a mosaic effect with 13 white vertical lines spaced approximately 2.5 inches apart. However, the white lines occasionally disappear but return after a while, the mosaic effect however remains. Then this effect turns into flashing squares across the screen. When I turn the monitor off and then on again, the picture is OK for a few minutes and then the same thing starts all over again.

As per your previous suggestions I have connected another cable as well as another computer, but the problems remain the same. I also must mention that the Sampo Monitor is the second of a 4 monitor system, however the other three monitors do not display such behavior.

Last but not least, I made screen-shots of the monitor, but unfortunately the screen-shots do not display any of these these problems. The monitor on the screen-shots displays perfectly what I am suppose to be seeing. It is therefore that I think that this is strictly a monitor display problem.

You mention that we might have to replace the capacitors on the CRT as this is a typical convergence failure on the convergence IC's. Unfortunately I do not know what these things are or where to get them from, but I know someone who could help. You also ask if I can solder, no, and I am not very technical either, but again, I know someone who is. With your help and support I think we would be able to fix this. Please give us your advice and suggestions. Thank you.

I look forward to your response,.

    RD

This can occur due to many reasons...the simplest of those is...
Damaged monitor signal cable...results in improper signal transmission
Also check if ths is a problem with the monitor or VGA card...Just connect it to another computer...If it works then its VGA card problem otherwise its a monitor problem. If you are good in electronics then the problem is
1)You have the typical convergence failure of the convergence correction IC's which need to be replaced

2)Cpacitors on the CRT are damaged and need to be replaced..

If you are not familiar with electronics pls dont attempt a repair as it is a high voltage device and the risk of electric shock wil be high.Just drop into a service center if this is the case

Excellent thats more than enough just ask that person for open circuits or shorted capacitors on the CRT board using a multimeter..This problem is usually caused by dry-solders..
Dont forget to report back..Eagle will be right here to see you thru this...

Open it up and look at the capacitors. The round "tin can" looking components. If the tops appear bulged, then replacing them may help. Check out the YouTube video... and web site...

i don't know how much the new one cost but it is fixable. Check the components around flyback transformer , check bad connections, check the flyback it self. It ask some expertise . If you can't ask help for your neighbor technician if he is good you will pay little money. but not less than $80

If all connections and the tuner have the same issue, you either have a power supply issue or a bad digital board.

A digitalizing picture is most likly a bad connection on a screen driver cable or the driver itself is intermittant or the power supply has an intermittant filter on the substain B+ line. hope this hellps.
