Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

Dometic A/C Vibration

My 8 year old unit just developed a bad vibration, don't know if it is the motor going bad or if there are dirt dauber nests on the squirrel cage. Problem is, I can only see a portion of the inside of the cage, none of the outside. It is surrounded by thick styrofoam, and I can't see how to get the fan out. Is there a way to do it without tearing up the foam shroud? Thanks.

I removed the top off of the unit and cleaned dirt daubers from the squirrel cage. On the motor I noticed it had a shaft on each side - one going to the squirrel cage and the other to a sealed compartment. Does the sealed compartment have another squirrel cage? The unit works however it really vibrates.

Sounds like the fan bearings are on the way out , these units are designed to be removed to be opened and usually they op from the part that touches the roof of the car not the top so remove it first might be a start

My dometic aircon is very quiet outside but inside very noisy and vibrates throughout motorhome

You may want to remove cover on roof and inspect for mudwasp nests on shafts, fan blades, blower wheel etc. Quite common for that to happen and cause vibration. The nests throws off the balance.

The 20 amp will be sufficient, you'll just need an adapter to match to your plug.

Fan motor vibration

Could be motor mount bushings, or bearings going in motor, but another common cause is mud-wasp nests, or other debris on the blades of your condenser fan. You'll need to shut off power at breaker, remove cover on roof unit, and have a look, and clean off as necessary. While power is off try moving motor shaft up and down, side to side, to feel if there is excessive play that may be the cause. This will also allow you to have someone turn unit back on, while you stand back with cover off and observe for possible causes of movement. Turn power back off at breaker for re-install of cover.

I have a dometic roof mounted air conditioner 3300 series and it developes this vibration like a real loud hum

sounds as if the fan motor bearing have worn out lettin the fan cage wobble upon reaching full speed hence the vibration. There also could be build up of debris in the fan assembly. Good luck on your repairs

RV ac is vibrating

Take a good look at fan blade for a crack in one or more, as well as turn unit on & watch for vibration , then take a look at mount bushings on all items. Also with fan off (obviously) check shaft for movement, side to side, up & down, in & out. Your gasket between roof should only be compressed approx half it's original thickness. Some manufacturers tighten them down too much and can be a source of vibration as well. Not expensive or hard to change. Don't forget blower wheel as well.
