This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your cameras warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

I have an impact S301 and when I print pictures there are horizontal grid lines. What do I do?

You need to clean your print head. Some printers have a "clean" function, maybe if you look in your manual you can find out how to activate it. Please rate my answer so I am rewarded points for it.

Westinghouse SK26H240S - Sound works but no picture?

There are two places to look for the problems, the backlight inverter board and the power supply. Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc.

Pictures have lines

some people say that winter storage does this.it is ,apparently,to do with moisture and the residue it causes when it dries.to all of you i recommend putting your cameras in a sun-lit window for 20 minutes a day for 3 to 5 days.if it does not work, try a tape head cleaner.

Picture deterioration

Your whole problem my freind is dryed up capacitors. You should go, if you have the technical ability to replace these capacitors, to http://servicemanuals.net, download the schematic diagram, and start replacing the waveshaper capacitors in the vertical drive circuit.
