Replace receiver knob

Hi, Ihave a Multi Channel receiver Pioneer model # VSX411S - bought in 2002- 2003. The Input Selector knob broke, its above the larger master volume knob and we need to replace it. It requires taking unit apart so we might not be able to do it ourselves. Can you advise us on this?

SOURCE: Pioneer VSX-D702s receiver - no sound - need help/circuit plan

The unit is in what is called "protect" mode. A problem was detected in the final output stage and that stage is turned off. The most common reason for this is failed output transistors. This is a simple repair for any repair shop and will cost about $10-$15 for parts plus the local labor charge. Expect that the output transistors plus a few supporting parts to be replaced. Most of the time, only one channel is badm, but due to the design of the protection circuit, both channels are turned off.

If you receiver doesn't have phono inputs, you will need to buy an inline phono amplifier.Phono inputs have a built in amplifier, all others don't.Try they don't carry them, they will tell you who does.

SOURCE: Center Channel not working on pioneer vsx-d608

Be sure the sound source has a center channel output ie. not a 2 channel source only, try the test tone setup for 5 or 6 channel balance, if no sound from the center channel still then it is looking like maybe the center channel is blown.

SOURCE: Pioneer Stero Receiver model SX-3700-

It sounds like your volume control pot has dust in it.You need to remove your cover from the receiver, spray pure denatured alcohol in the small openings in the back of you volume control dial and turn the knob all the way up and down several times and then blow low compressed air threw the same small openings while rotating your dial. That should fix your problem.Be sure you unplug your receiver before performing this procedure.

I would like to connect my Philips subwoofer to my Pioneer multi channel receiver, but the subwoofer's input has only a 15 pin serial port connection. I need an inexpensive and easy solution?

Unfortunately, most subwoofers , like the one you're describing, need a separate amplifier. I don't know the model number of what you're working with but most Phlips subwoofers with that connection need an amp. Now, if you have the rest of the system that was originally with the sub then you can scavenge it's amp. But that's tricky if you don't know what you're looking at. Craigslist has tons of "powered" subwoofers that don't require a separate amp and u can therefore use your Sub Preout from the HT receiver.

The input selector knob won't change the input and I have no sound.

Your receiver has gone to receiver heaven. With labor costs being what they are and the good inexpensive electronics available, it might be better to replace than repair.

Good day, I need your asst. I can't seem to remove the 2ch playback from my VSX-49TX Elite Pioneer reciever, I tried reseting it and nothing happen...can you help me.

If you have no sound, you can try the multi channel inputs on the back after switching to the multi chan input. If you have sound that way, you have a DSP problem. I can repair this issue to the component level, as many customers have found, the boards are very expensive, and no longer available. If you're interested in repairing your receiver, please visit my website at There you will find the seminar I wrote for Pioneer, when I worked there as a Field Service Engineer, specializing in audio. You can contact me directly from my website. Thanks you.

Sometimes only one channel plays when playing CDs or DVDs. Jiggling the input knob will at times cause both channels to operate. This unit is a Yamaha RX-770 that I bought new. Thanks!

It sounds like you know what the problem is. Get it fixed.

Or try this temporary fix.

Or turn it off and manually operate the selector and all controls a thousand times to wipe the apparent oxides from their contacts.

Having a live-and-kicking VSX-36TX receiver which I love, I feel for you. But the prices have come down dramatically since we bought them. I paid $1200 for mine new. If I needed to replace it I would go with a used one from eBay and consider searching specifically for one that uses the same remote but doesn't have one included. The price would be low.

Like this beasty, no remote for $250 delivered:

or this one with a remote for $232 delivered.

I just bought a used Pioneer Elite vsx-49tx receiver on ebay and cannot get any audio output at all.I noticed in the manual that there are 2 u-shaped connectors that are supposed to be in place but are...

You are correct. The Pre-amp outputs must be connected to the AMP-inputs. A dual RCA cable will work just fine. This setup is to allow for easy insertion of an outboard piece of equipment like an EQ.
