Intertherm to Honeywell thermostat

I have an intertherm central heat/air, one day it just stopped working all together.  Thermostat wire going into outside unit was showing wire through plastic. Cut and connected back together but nothing. Am now replacing the thermostat from Intertherm to Honeywell. Question is Intertherm has Blue wire that Honeywell does not have. Also Intertherm does not have anything in the RC connector. Should I use the jumper or not on the Honeywell ?? Thanks for your help

Re: Intertherm to Honeywell thermostat

Typically if you have a yellow wire in the "y" terminal blue is used as common or "c". As far as your jumper from rc to rh, that will depend upon what type of heat you have. If all of your heat and cooling come from your packaged unit outside, yes you will need the jumper. If this does not work maybe you have a bad breaker or transfomer.

Why doesy intertherm air conditioner run most of the time

First off it may be undersized or too small for the area being cooled. the thermostat maybe un level if it has a mercury bulb. The cooling contactor could be stuck, or you may have wires shorted together.

Turn the power off to the unit and use a different color thermostat wire in place of the green wire. If this works, there is a short in the wire. If not it's likely either a relay or a bad motor.

Yes they should be compatible, but you may have to jumper rc and rh on the new thermostat if you have not already. Also you may have blown the low voltage fuse of the Intetherm circuit board. It should be located in the electrical compartment of the unit. The fuse will be a blade type, 3 or 5 amp.

Intertherm has wiring of E,O,G,R,C,Y,W all have wires to them and changing to honeywell it has Rh,Rc,W,Y,G Where do all the wires go?

If you haven"t solved it by now, with the new stat you will not use the O or B terminals. Your red wire will connect at either one, RH, or RC as they are connected together with a jumper wire. Then, G to green, W to white, and Y to yellow. Now, if this is a heat pump, you have the wrong thermostat. The one you have is for a gas fired unit. The O and B terminals are used on a heat pump to shift the reversing valve. So, if you have a gas unit, I believe it is, wire it like I said. Red will go to both RH and RC as one. If there are only two wires going to the thermostat? Then you will not be able to use a Digital Programable stat. Intertherm and Coleman furnaces do the switching different than regular furnaces. They use the switching from heat to AC at the furnace with the rocker switch. They use the thermostat to either break the connection or make the connection. They use a heating only thermostat.... Intertherm Heating and Cooling

I would say that you have ether a wiring problem or a faulty thermostat. The thermostat brings on the A/C through the Y terminal on your thermostat. The heating is brought on by the W terminal on the thermostat. If the wire for the A/C is shorting to the wire for the heating it would give the problem you are describing.

Elec. intertherm FURNACE

It would help if I knew what type of system you have, lets start with the thermostat. If you disconnect the wires to it, does the heat turn off? I have seen thermostat wires pinched inside the wall, thus bypassing the thermostat controls altogether and it would run constantly. If you send a reply, tell the type. Wall furnace, central unit, heat & cool, gas, electric or heat pump. If you dont know tell me how many wires you have at the thermostat and the colors. You should know this, as you have changed it.
