Question about Whirlpool MH1140XM Microwave Oven

Whirlpool MH1140XM: has power, but no heat, turntable not spin.

Whirlpool MH1140XM: Unit has power, clock works, timer works, lights and display work. When you go to heat something an initial light clicking sound is heard, the turntable does not spin, and the unit does not heat the contents at all (even after two minutes on high). The microwave otherwise SOUNDS like it is operating correctly, as the fan runs and you hear the apparent hum of the magnetron. Before it broke down, I had just cooked some scrambled eggs in it not two minutes before. (I did not overcook them). I initially tried to gently turn the turntable by hand in case it was jammed but it did not help. I then tried turning off the breaker to the unit for about half an hour and then back on. Reset the clock, but it had the same failure symptom. Thanks for any help.

Test the high voltage capacitor, the rectifier diode.or the magnetron.

The diode and capacitors can br tested. The capacitor must be allowed discharge before testing, or you risk to get electrocuted, even if power is off. Capacitors can get discharged by shorting their two contacts.
Replace the magnetron if the checks and all of the high voltage component tests are good, but the unit still does not heat.

All locations, and description of this parts can be located using the diagram here: Counter top.

Parts must be tested to find out what is wrong.

Remember that microwaves are potentially dangerous devices if not repaired properly, the job must be done by a competent person.
A microwave energy leakage test must always be performed when the oven is serviced for any reason.

Microwave will not heat, but will turn on. Clock and Timer still work. Turntable turns. Making a loud humming noise and light flickers

This clearly indicates a bad magnetron, "heats food" in most cases it is cheaper to replace the microwave oven than have it repaired, since the magnetron is the heart of the unit.

Hello, Thank You for using FixYa. I will be helping you today.Make sure no wires were pinched in the process. The turntable motor runs off the board that's why im thinking you have a grounded wire somewhere.

Whirlpool MH1150XMB-0 runs but does not heat food

If the housing of the unit isn't too difficult to remove (normally 3-5 Phillips screws around the rear edge), with the unit unplugged of course, check for a user replaceable fuse inside. The magnetron is separately fused and fuses can fail due to metal fatigue. It will be high amperage; 10-20 amperes and many hardware stores will have them. BTW, there is no residual radiation from a magnetron that isn't operating.
