Question about Dell Dimension 5100 (D51L1) PC Desktop

Dell Desktop Dimension 5100 is not booting up

Cannot get the computer to boot up. The power button flashes along with the internet connection at the rear. Pressing or holding the button gets no response. I unplugged the power cord and internet connection overnight and it booted up this morning. Turned it off and it will not boot up and displays the same symptoms as last night. We cleaned the memory connector pins, but that did not help. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Unplug your computer for 30 seconds and when you turn it on press f8 and press start windows normaly

Please check first your bios settings.. its could be on the boot up settings. you must configure it out correctly..

Hmmm....you press the power button on the front of the case. I am not sure what you need exactly. If the computer has had a different power supply installed there could also be a power switch on the back of the case.

If everything is plugged in correctly and you don't hear fans or hard drive sounds, you most likely need a new power supply.

I assume your new computer has IDE controller on the motherboard.
Yes you can install your old hard drive into your new computer as a Slave hard drive.
If the old hard drive is installed on the 2nd IDE controller and it is the only device on the controller then the jumper and be master or slave, but connect the hard drive at the last connector on the IDE cable.

My Dell Dimension begins to boot then sits there as if asleep


It sounds like it's probably the power supply. Computers require more power to boot up than they do to keep running, so if it's fine once it gets going, the power supply may just be dying. If you have a multimeter and know what you're doing, you can test the power supply connectors to see if any of them (especially the ones leading to the motherboard) are not giving the proper voltages.

My Dell dimension 5100 on switch will blink yellow but will not boot up (on). When it did work, the switch would change to green.


boot files are corrupt or missing....
only repair of OS will rectify...
else
u need to reinstall OS...if
u have more then one logical partitions i.e. C:, D:, D: drive etc in ur HD then u can install one more copy of OS in either D: or E: and then when computer starts/boots u can chose from the multiple OS windows install to boot from.

Can't boot up Dell 5100 Dimension, amber light flashes


When you mean the amber light, is that the blinking hard drive access light or the power light? Different cases have different colors on it. Mine has blue and green lights.

If you see the boot screen (bios) and then after it goes to boot, does it blink and hang?

This could be a simple operating system issue, hard drive or hardware/motherboard issue. If you could provide more information, that would help.

hi...try to open side cover then find the memory then pull out and clean the pin connectors using Paper Eraser only..thanks...

No power to Dell demension 5100 desktop


If there is no activity whatsoever when you press the power button on than you have likely blown the internal power supply fuse. This will need a technician to repair.

Dimension 5100 wont power up


check powersupply, boot into recovery console and run chkdsk /r if able, and yes you can mirror the drive and recover data. may also be able to do repair install.

Hi

First disconnecting the power cord and re-seat all connections (Keyboard, Mouse espercially). Connect up the power cord and try powering the PC.

To help you troubleshoot a problem, Dell Dimension 5100 has four diagnostic lights labeled "1," "2," "3," and "4" on the front panel. When the computer starts normally, the lights flash. After the computer starts, all four lights display solid green. If the computer malfunctions, the color and sequence of the lights identify the problem.

If the computer failed to start up check the diagnostic lights color and sequence and Check the link below for more info (Assuming you have another system that can access internet)

Alternatively, contact Dell Support with the diagnostic lights color and sequence to raise a service call if the system if under warranty.
