Question about Office Depot Ativa DQ60M Shredder

Ativa dq60m the blades on my shredder are all messed up and keep jamming i have had the unit a little over a year. i can not find the reciept but i know i bought it at the collierville office dopot what do i need to do to get the unit replaced if they will still cover it

    I have the same problem, specifically with the the blades in the middle
    of the shredder. The paper shreds on the left and right portion of the
    input feed, but does not shred in the middle, so the paper continues to
    wrap around the middle blades until the shredder jams. I don't have my
    receipt either but I have the original box and a sticker on it that say
    "OFFICE DEPOT #2253" which is the store my wife bought it from in
    Pembroke Pines, Florida. When I called and explained to the store
    person, he said that since we didn't purchase their "extended
    warranty", it was not covered since this was due to normal "wear and
    tear"...I've had this shredder less than a year!

    I have the same problem the paper is stuck in the blades and can't get it out.

    I have the same problem. According to the directions you need to use lubricant for every half hour of shredding - it doesn't help. I have now gone through two shredders in 2 weeks. The blades bend if the paper jams or a staple is used.

    Ditto. Same problem. Shredded paper jams up in middle, and over time has bent and destroyed the blades. I was advised when I bought the shredder from Office Depot to squeeze a few drops of lubricant directly on to the blades from time to time. It gummed up the blades so the paper sticks as described above. It's almost as if the store gives that advice to shorten the life of the shredder so you have to buy a new one sooner than you'd otherwise need to.

The main problem with paper shredders is tha t they don't get their proper maintenance...
They should be lubricated (If you open the door, you will probably find a small bottle with lubricating oil inside the cabinet). Look inside the supplied manual and follow the instructions.
I tell this because one of my friends has business with paper shredders, and the most common cause is missing maintenance and/or lubrication.
If it's the blades in the center that cause the problem, this points to a worn out wheel that hasn't got the proper lubrication.
The solution is to get a new shredder, or if your shredder is of a known brand, get a new set of wheels.

Unplug the Machine, rotate them in reverse or you can pick the paper out by hand. UNPLUG the machine.

I have a Ativa DQ60M Paper Shredder and it is very clogged with paper and it looks like some of the blades are slightly bent. Can it be sent in for repair or warranty?

Office Depot item #405935: Ativa DQ83M Diamond-Cut Shredder (mine show model ...Mn. It has a 1-year warranty for product, BUT ALSO a 3-year warranty for the "cutting cylinders". Call 1-877-777-HELP; .
I called 12-29-2010. Rep had difficulty finding product, put me on hold, found it. Said prod only has 1-yr w (per Office Depot online, this is all that is given as to info); but I said, no, 3-yr on cutter. I held again, rep researched and agreed. I took a case number and tried rep's troubleshooting suggestion: I put 3-in-1 oil (veg oil suggested by rep too) on the jammed shredded paper (machine still would go in reverse BTW); I let it soak 5 mins, removed paper, tried shredding, and paper jammed again. No replacement parts are avl. I called again, gave case number. Rep suggested I oil the cutter now that paper was removed. I said cutters are oiled from removing paper. I was put on hold, only a short while.

Good outcome thus far: I was given fax number and instructions to receive gift card in 6-8 weeks upon their receipt of my fax (to 1-888-561-0785) of case number, name (first and last), mailing address, and copy of the receipt.

What I learned: Do the maintenance oiling monthly or more if needed! Try to buy a shredder that is beyond my shred needs, e.g., a 10-sheet cutter but use it only up to 8 pages. Try to buy a shredder that has replacement parts.

The price of the Ativa in 2008 was $40 ($30 instant savings taken at the register), and it didn't get daily or regular use.

Good product support on this Ativa product. Glad I saved my manual and receipt!!

My Ativa DQ60M shredder has damaged cutters in one spot. The paper packs in these cutter wheels and on occassion causes it to run continuously. Can I replace the cutter rolls?

Hi, I have checked into this with my shredders. There are plastic "cleaners" that break very easily and when they do, the cutters jam up. No way to get just the cleaners (that I have found). Very poor design. Only thing to do is to clean the rollers from time to time.

All of these types are shredders are mainly junk. I have one that is blowing the fuse. I am an electrical engineer and am trying to see what the fix is.

Main drive gear is damaged on and Ativa shedder

If you main gear drive is broken you probably had a paper jam, so your shredder blade gear will break soon. By the time you purchase the part and pay for the shipping it would cost just about the same as gettin a new one. Then you will not have to wotty about anything esle breaking after you get this part because of the stress you put on the motor and other gears. I hope this helps you.

Well, despite the manufacters warning label I choose to take the shredder apart and found that one of the plastic gears was broken. Hence the motor runs, but the blades do not turn. The thing I didn't understand, the there are metal gears and plasic gears...I can only imagine that the plastic gears at one point or another are going to give. I would suggest not to void the manufacters warrenty, take the shredder back, and get one that is built a little stronger. Hope that helps.

Ativa shredder

Pull out as much of the paper as possible. Then spray some window cleaner or similar on whats left to soften and disolve it.
