Sounds like you have a duff PSU, it will need replacing or it will cause the system + PSU to overheat

Loud Continious Alarm noise coming from the Piezo buzzer

You are definitely looking at a hardware problem. Your son did not cause this problem.
On the problem computer, disconnect everything but the video, power supply, memory, CPU, mouse, and keyboard.
Now try to start it up. It should start and tell you there is no boot device. If the noise continues, remove the memory and try to start it.
I'm not sure if you have an integrated video card or not, but if it's an add-on, you could try to remove that to see if you can quiet the system.
Once the system starts, plug things back in one at a time to get it working.

PC won't power on. Compaq SR5410F

IF you have another power supply you can use, try it and see if the computer will power up.

Computer does not boot

If you computer over heated, this could have caused the board or power supply to short. I would first start by trying a new power supply unit (since this is cheapest of the options). If that does not work then try replacing the motherboard and/or processor. Since you not getting any power, my guess is motherboard or power supply unit.

I changed the taps on a switch labeled 1 to 5 on my compaq deskp

hi there,

is your pc boot in bios set up? if not,try to replace your power supply. TIP: please don't do multiple booting in your pc, its really totally damage the power supply.

but before that, try to do this, uncover your pc, then hold your HDD before you turn on your pc. after that, if your HDD is not responding, then try to replace the power jack of your HDD and plug it firmly, and try again. if really not responding, then replace your power supply. if yes, might be you have some problem with your video card. if theres video out or RAM. your computer cannot process the program or os.

Monitor shut off, no BIOS post, no keyboard or mouse lights, will not boot

Try another (Known good monitor). Or try you're monitor on another system.
Remove all memory except 1 DIMM. Double check all data cables (internally) & power cables. Remove the added video card. Try booting the system. Watch for the case LEDs to flash/blink, listen for hard drive spin up /cd-rom spin up. Lastly pull the battery & check with a volt meter. Bios battery should test no less than 3 volts. Post the correct MD rev.

Without a visual inspection it sounds like the PSU is damaged, it is possible that the standby power is reaching the motherboard but the main circut is bust. i would replace the PSU with one of the same watt rating.

Be aware that incorrectly installing a power supply can cause damage to other componets or yourself. If in doubt see professional advice

Won't boot up

Does it actually power up? (i.e. can you hear any power going through it? do the fans all spin round? are the hard drives powering up?). If there's no power going through it, try a second power supply if you have one.

Either the new power supply you purchased is not functioning correctly. But, assuming it is now that you are getting some form of power to your PC, it is very likely the motherboard. Whatever fried your old power supply (or it could have just been the power supply itself) most likely fried your motherboard in the process. Probably not the CPU since the MB can't even post.

Your CPU may have a problem

Have you removed all memory, other cards and unhooked all other drives to see if a short exists there? With a 300W PS some other component may be pulling too much that the CPU can't start so it tells you the problem is with the CPU or The CPU its refering to is on the video card? Good Luck, Tim
