How to know the tons of old ac unit from the model no?

36 is equal to 36000 btu. To find the ton divide by 12000 btu. 12000 BTU is a ton of refrigeration. This is a 3 ton unit.

I think compressor needs to be replaced, ac unit not pumping any cold hair in the house. I have a weatherking a/c model 10AJA3001, how much eventually it would take to replace it?

You're looking at around $800-$1000 to replace the compressor and if the condensing unit has some years on it (say 12 or more) it would probably be cost-effective to think about a new one, except for the fact you'd probably have to change the evaporative (inside) coil - to match the new condensing (outside) unit because chances are - your old unit is R-22 and you're going to have to put in a condensing unit that will be using a different refrigerant.
All that being said - I would try to find out the reason your AC is not cooling and hope it is a minor problem that can be easily repaired.

Just put in a new ac unit and replaced a old one. old unit was 18000 btu and the new one is on 12,000 btu I used the same power outlet but the new ac unit starts up but then shuts down and seems like it is...

The 18,000 btu A/C is 230 volts, are you sure the 12,000 btu unit is 230 volts most are 120 volts.
Usually 12,000 btu is the biggest 120 volt A/C you can buy.

Need the BTU rating for an old Kenmore K948991 a/c

Your model number is not complete enough for a model check.
However, 18,000 btu in todays' units is what you need.

Ruud Furnace needs replacement

What part of the country?
How many square feet in the house?
Insulation?
Single pane glass?
Many factors should be considered by a professional.
However if the old unit worked OK, a new 80% 70,000 unit will most likeley replace a 24 year old 60-70% 75,000 unit.

Weather King 10AJA6001AH Air Conditioner with bad compressor

If it is five years old it is either right in or out of warranty a service tech can determine this through the serial number. If not the unit is only a little bit more to replace than the compressor. A replacement compressor is only warrantied for one year verses a unit replacement with five years on the compressor and one year parts and labor.

Seeking Weatherking 10ADA3601

You can put another brand in it's place as long as it is the same amperage and the same amount of tons, Also the refregirent needs to be saved in the lines and collected from the old unit,I would get a qualified Co.to do this .
