I cannot format my brand new memory card in my Kodak Easyshare.

I have a Kodak EasyshareC913. Prompt reads "memory card needs formatting". When I click ok and continue it starts to format and then stops. The "card needs formatting" prompt keeps reappearing. I cannot get to the menu with the card in the camera and when I take the card out, go to the menu to get the formatting prompt, put the new card in..it starts the same cycle.(needs formatting, starts to format and stops before completion.

I tried that and I was prompted to move the switch back to the original position to unlock the protection.

The card size is 4GB. SDHC is on the package. I have a card reader. Nothing happens when I plug it into the computer.

I'm going to take the card and the camera back to the store (I just purchased them together last week) and start from scratch, new camera and new card. We'll see what happens.

Have you tried putting the card into a card reader on a computer to make sure that you have a good card? Cards can go bad, also if you have the wrong speed of card some cameras can't use them. The Kodak you have is HD and requires a high speed sd card. The old plain cheapo sd cards have a 2MB/Sec transfer rate while the new high speed ones have a 15MB/Sec transfer rate. Make sure the camera is off when you insert the card and that it says 'high speed' or 'ultra' on the card.

    what is the card size?

Do you have the card unlocked so it can be formatted? On the edge of the card is a little sliding switch that locks (write prevents) the card try moving the switch to the other position and try again. See if that fixes it for you.

Believe the 4 GB card is too large for this camera and internal camera software was not designed to format or manage so much memory.. try a fast SD under 2 GB.

No. Can you get into the camera menu when you turn the camera on? If so, go to "format" by way of the menu rather than clicking on continue. Also, be sure the slide switch on the side of the card is in the unlocked position.

Brand new memory card

I have the same problem with the same camera. I checked other sites and it seems that the C330 takes only SD cards up to a max of 1GB. It won't read SDHC cards and it won't read SD cards greater than 1GB.

Try turning the camera off and then back on.Ensure that the memory card is the proper type for the camera. If the memory card is the proper type, try re- formatting the card using the Format option in the Delete sub-menu of the Playback Menu. If it will not format, it is probably corrupted. Replace the memory card

Your camera is only supporting SD/MMC Cards (up to 2 GB) and KODAK SDHC Cards (up to 8 GB).
The card that you currently have might be faulty. Please try another card.
You might also need to switch the camera over to saving pictures directly onto the SD card.1: Menu, Cam settings, Chose AUTO or SD card option Press OK
Note: If the SD card isn't in the camera or is unreadable the camera will automatically go back to saving you taken pictures on the internal memory.

When I inset my memory card into my camera it reads memory card requires formatting. What does this mean? New memory card causes prompt to format card but camera does not complete formatting successfully....

  • Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from Amazon.com or Buy.com
  • 2 Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
  • 3 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
  • 4 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
  • 5 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
  • 6 Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.

    Cards not working with camera

If you used the SD/MMC memory card in another brand of camera or device, you may need to format the card in your new EasyShare digital camera. (You may have noticed a "Memory Card Needs Formatting" message when you inserted the card.) CAUTION: Formatting deletes all pictures and videos, including those that are protected. Removing a card during formatting may damage the card. To format the SD/MMC memory card or the internal memory of the camera: Transfer images to the computer before formatting the memory card. Press the camera Menu button. Highlight SETUP MENU, and then press the OK button. Highlight FORMAT, and then press the OK button. Highlight an option - MEMORY CARD (deletes everything on the card), CANCEL (exits without formatting), or INTERNAL MEMORY (deletes everything in internal memory). Press the OK button. Highlight Continue, and then press the OK button. Wait until formatting is finished before removing the card. When formatting is complete, the SETUP MENU is displayed. Press the Menu button to exit the menu.
