Dreamcast won't read games-PLEASE HELP!

My Sega Dreamcast won't read the game disks I put in it. It goes to the main Dreamcast menu. Sometimes, the Sega copyright stuff comes on, but it always goes to the menu right after. Once in a blue moon, the game works, but a short while after (at the MOST inconvinient time, too), pop goes the menu screen. I just want to play Let's Get Ready to Rumble 2- please help!

Your Dreamcast sounds like it's overheating.

I had the same thing, and the cooling fan was worn out and needed to be replaced. I did this, and now it works like a charm.

SOURCE: my control wont work

did you tested another dreamcast control...you had the same problem...so you have to check the protection Fusistor inside your dreamcast conector controller board....it seems like a blue or green normal resistor...marked as F1 on the board..change it with a simple fuse or an smd fusistor...Good Luck!

SOURCE: hi, my sega dreamcast console won't spin disc,

Hi,

try this youtube guide here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rizeLEQyzs&feature=related, during the video the person will talk about a black plastic leave that gets pushed back by the dreamcast lid. if that lever is not being pushed back the drive will not spin. you can try the suggestion in the guide also.

Hope this helps,

Omeil

also at: http://www.wikihow.com/Fix-a-Scratched-CD wikihow tells you about commercial scratch removers.

sometimes they work sometimes they don't but hey! why not try?

The last resort is to buy another copy

Not reading disks

Your spindle motor has gone, this is not impossible to solder another one in, and should be considered as these Sega consoles are getting rare over time. You will notice that it will attempt to read the disc but will just stop after 3 seconds, failing that open the machine and put a bit of tape at the back of the GD drive where a little lever is to keep it down as the lid maybe out of alignment.

I HAVE A SEGA DREAMCAST WHICH HAS BEEN IN THE LOFT FOR 2 YEARS. I HAVE NOW STARTED USING IT AGAIN, BUT WHEN i PLAY A GAME FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES IT GOES BACK TO THE MENU AND TRIES TO RE-READ THE DISK AND...

it sounds like it is the common fault with the dreamcast of poor power connection due to fatigue.

UNPLUG the dreamcast and Remove the screws and take the lid off (one screw is under the modem).
Once the lid is off unscrew and remove the power board (the bit to the left of the console)
There are four or five prongs that stick up from the main board to the power board. Check they are clean, not rusty, and bend them slightly toward the back of the console, only SLIGHTLY so they dont break or snap.

Reassemble, see if that helps.

Certain Sega Dreamcast Consoles have issues with the laser lens and the motor of the disk reading system. Some of them die after a certain period of use.

you can get disks relayered at game stores.
there was a long period where this happened to me.
some games worked for a while, some didnt.
its the dreamcast.
you might wanna get anew power cable or just clear out the dust because that is the main problem with the dreamcast.
try playing with the console upside down
it sounds crazy but it worked for me.

Sega Dreamcast Disk-reading piece

cripes I think you may have mixed your screws up?
1 it sounds like you are using a self tapping screw (it has a greater distance between each layer) rather than the tight screws which are for fitting the circuits together.
2 I believe there are three screw holes for the disc reading part of the dreamcast and you really only need two to keep the disc player in place, so also try another hole.
3 and one last thing to check you haven't put a screw underneath the board already?
