Question about Maxtor Personal Storage 3200 (U01E200) 200 GB Hard Drive

Maxtor 3200 hard drive use to work just fine..put in storage for a couple of weeks and now it shows an error code 10 when it tries to re install have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and resetting both the computer and the hard drive..have tried new usb cable and have tried in all usb ports on computer...im assuming the hard drive is broken but thought id ask to see if anyone had any suggestions before resigning to the fact that i probably just lost everthing on the hard drive

    Hi, had a similar problem with mine, only way I could get it to respond was to take it out of the external casing and attach it to the computer direct.

    You can then get all you files off and then work on fixing it, should be no reason to loose your data

    if the drives bad as u say joecoolvette is their any reason to pay for a new ext. enclosure?

Seagate troubleshooting Error Code 10, states that drive has failed. (Seagate bought out Maxtor)

Before you resign yourself to everything is lost on this harddrive, how about trying one more thing?

How about putting the harddrive inside in a new external enclosure, and see if it works? I suggest that perhaps the external enclosure it's in, is bad.
The harddrive inside is a 3.5 inch harddrive. Same width as used by a desktop computer. It is a Sata harddrive.

Here's an example of a 3.5 inch Sata, external enclosure,

Just pop the external enclosure open that holds it now, take it out, and install it into an external enclosure like the example above. Plug in the USB cable.

Maxtor personal storage 3200 problem!!!


First, try another USB Cable. If that does not work properly then I would suspect the box or the drive has failed. If you just bought it, return it to the store and complain. They may replace it. As for your data?

Now if you want to become techie you can remove the hard drive from the box and attach it to you computer either copy the files back if you do not have them on your computer or format the drive if you have your files. Then put the drive back in the box and try to get a refund or buy a different external. I like a metal box with an AC cord plug. Best of luck.

My Maxtor 3200 ext. drive which I had for one year now (no pbs.) not being recognized by my system and I see a Code 10 error in the Device Manager.


first you can use your troubleshooter in your device manager to find out what that code 10 error is or you can go to the maxtor website in the support or troubleshoot section and tell them your code 10 error,it might be a driver needs to be updated.

Maxtor 3200 not working


Check for error code 10 in the Windows device manager. You likely have a power supply problem.

Cannot find hard drive


I got the same problem on my 3200. Found out that the adapter was bad. Changed it and everything worked ok.

You need to open the enclosure and either put the drive in another enclosure or connect it directly to your computer.

Or you can pay to send it to data recovery people and they will get all the data off.
