How to connect a plug electric dryer to a 4 plug outlet

for short, just dont mind the color.. the black wire from the new plug goes to right in/on the appliance terminal block, the white from the new plug goes to both white in the middle of the same terminal block and the red wire from the new plug goes to left terminal block of the appliance therminal block and of coarse the green from the new plug goes to the appliance frame.. no need nor sense in trying to figure the wire color of the appliance as it does not mean anything really and it does not follow any rules nor standards..

Need to know which color wire on a new plug goes to which screw on the back

Hello,
This is how to connect both 3&4 wire cords;
It seems to get confusing where the wires go in the back where the cord connects to on your brand new,or previously dryer that you have brought to a home thats new to you

4 wires goes as such with oldtech2332.jpgthe red wire going on the right side, the black wire going on the left, the white wire goes on the center terminal. Now what exactly do you do with the green wires is what your asking yourself. It goes onto the cabinet after removing that little link that went from the center terminal that was beweeen the cabinet and and the white wire terminal.Yes remove that link and install the green wire where that link was just attached to a minute ago.

3 WIRE CORD

The 3 wire cord goes just like this see the 2 wires on the outsides of the cord going to the black/red wires .The wire in the middle of the cord goes on the middle terminal on the cord block

I need to know what screws are for what 2 black, 1 gold 1 silver

You are install a switch-receptacle combo.

As you have realized, screw color is the key.
1) Black hot wire connects to dark colored screws.
Both dark screws are connected together with brass plate, so hot wire only needs to connect to one of the dark screws.

2) Wire going to Load (light, fan, motor) connects to brass colored screw.

3) White neutral wire connects to silver colored screw.

4) Lets look at problem as if new wiring device is replacing old on-off switch that has two wires.
So old on-off switch has two wires >> one is black hot wire, and other is wire going to load.
Separate wires, turn on power and test each wire to bare ground wire.
Tester lights up on hot wire. This wire goes on dark screw.
If old on-off switch had another wire connected with the hot wire, that wire also goes on the dark screw.
The other wire from old switch is the Load wire, and it connects to brass colored screw.

Now you need a neutral wire.
In back of box are white wires twisted together and covered with wire nut.
These are neutrals.
To confirm that these wires are neutrals >> turn on power and test hot wire to other wires in box. Tester lights up on neutral.
Neutral wire connects to silver screw, and this will complete the circuit for any electric device plugged into receptacle.
If box does not have neutral wires as described above, you can violate code and connect bare ground to silver screw >>> but do NOT do this if your new plug is going to be used regularly.
You can use bare ground temporarily until additional wiring is made available.

I need to change the 3 wire plug on my whirlpool model LE5790XS dryer to a 4 wire plug...old one is not color coded and I dont want to hook it up wrong...whats the correct way to connect this plug?

To install your 4 wire plug ,the white wire goes to the center wiring terminal on the dryer. The green ground wire attaches to the terminal cover screw outside the dryer. The red and black wires go right and left on the dryer terminal.

Amana dryer, changing out the electrical plug from 3 to 4 prong

2116163639_1_-180x177.jpg
For example; Green wire goes to green screw on machine. White in the middle, red on left, black on right. (observed small color coded wires connecting in back-ground as well.)

In general, each color should match. Meaning, white with white.

Changing an Electric Dryer’s Power Cord from a 4-Prong Plug to a 3-Prong Plug

Black and red wires go to the outside terminals. (either way, just so one is on each) and the white goes to the center terminal. If your cord does not have color coded wires and is one of those flat wire types, just make sure the center wire goes to the center terminal. If the 4 wire cord had been properly installed the installer would have removed a wire or metal strap which connected the center terminal to the dryer's frame. Make sure you have this is place to ground the frame of the dryer to neutral.

Changing from 3 wire plug to a 4 wire plug. What color goes where?

you have a 4 wire plug,

Green wire on plug goes to the cabinet ground

Black goes to the terminal block, where the other black wires are, usually on one side of the block.

White is Neutral it goes to the Terminal block, where the white wires are, usually in the center.

Red goes to the other side of the terminal block where the other red wires are.

Do you have your owners installation manual? it should tell you in the manual how to wire it.

If all else fails call an Electrican, Repair person, or a friend who knows.
