Question about Refrigerators

Open Question

Our Dometic S1621 will not cool in the fridge or freezer.

We just bought this camper. On our maiden voyage, we discovered that even though all lights indicated that the Dometic S1621 was running like a charm that it would not cool. The camper is a 1994 Lumastar (not that that matters). We are at our wits end and sure could use some help to make our first camper a success. Oh and we do hear signs of life while it is on. There is a gurgling and burping sound, that would make one think something is moving in the back just not sure what. Thanks

Unfortunately the gurgling sound is the one you never want to hear from that type of fridge (RV). I just came back from the RV parts Dealer and the news are horrible...Your as well as mine fridge are shot, so save up $1200 or so to buy a new one.

SOURCE: Camper fridge dont cool

I also had the same Model Make. I removed my fridge and placed it upside down, occasionally shaking fridge within a 24 hr period. This seemed to re-mix the ammonia solution and the fridge is working.
This may work for you but look for yellow stains if you see any your fridge is leaking and would require repair.

SOURCE: Dometic rv fridge runs fine on elec, lights on gas

It is key that all control switches are in the correct position, depending on what power source you are using, gas, electric, etc. If the switches are not in the proper setting, the unit will not operate.

Here's the manual for your fridge that should be printed out for your use and reference (and reading enjoyment). It has all the info needed to operate and troubleshoot it.

Typically, when using any gas appliance with a pilot light, the sensor has to first be hot enough to trigger it to allow the safety gas shutoff to open and allow the gas to flow to the pilot/burner. Follow the instructions and you should be all set.

I have a Dometic fridge model number RM2612 in a camper that i just purchased used and the fridge isn't cooling. The freezer section seems to be okay. The metal plate in the freezer gets cold but

Make sure it is level, has proper airflow out through top vent. Also check baffle, or stack where flame sits under and blow it out good with compressed air to make sure it's clean. If you smell a hint or strong smell of ammonia, shut it off, it has a leak in cooling unit. If all ok in that area, shut it off, disconnect and plug propane line, disconnect power and remove the fridge. Turn the fridge upside down for a day or 2, then re-install and let it sit 24 hrs before turning it back on. Quite often that will take care of any blockage in flow of cooling liquid, and get things back to normal if cooling unit is still good.

Tuna, it sounds like your thermistor is bad. Once the fridge reaches 40 degrees, the thermistor is supposed to tell the board to stop cooling and maintain. You can test it with an Ohmmeter.
