Question about Dehumidifiers

Open Question

I have a Danby Dehumidifier Model DDR657EE that ices up all the time. It is connected to drain all the time. It is in a basement that is ~20 degrees C or 72 Degrees F. What would be the problem? It worked well for about 9 months.

    My simplicity 50L leaks water out the back of the unit is this from freezing up.

This will need to be serviced. LG has a 5 year warranty on these models. They usually will tell you of a service center nearby which will service it free of charge since it is under warranty. If you do not live near a service center they may ship you a replacement and you send your old dehumidifier back to them. Make sure you have your reciept when you contact them so they can verify it is 2 years old.

First, make sure the rectangular filter on the back side is clean so air can flow over the coils freely. Try to place the dehumidifier on a table or something to get it off the floor. (floor level is cooler than head level) If you still have icing issues, replace sensor. (part # WK23X10011 )

Icing up recently.everyday it ices up. the temp. in the basement is about 55 degrees. never had a problem for over a year untill now. it supposed to have an auto-defrost, but it doesnt seem to work.


The air intake filter may be clogged. Cleaning it, may solve the problem, once the unit thaws out. In addition, low refrigerant gas can also cause the unit to ice up. While waiting for the unit to thaw completely, turn the Master On/Off Switch to OFF and unplug the unit. In addition to thawing this unplugged time, may give the unit a chance to reset itself.

Does not generate water. The fan keeps on running. Forms ice on coils


If the room temperature is close to 60, the coils may be frozen (completely encased in ice). If this is the case, move it where the water can drain off - about 1 gallon which may NOT run into the drain bucket.
I out mine over the floor drain.
Turn off and it will defrost over night.
Only specially made dehumidifiers work below a room temp of 60 degrees (the temp of a basement in winter).
Does it need to be running? A digital humidity sensor from Radio Shack is cheap and may tell you the humidity is OK - only 50% or less.

Dehumidifier runs but does not remove moisture.

What does P1 mean on display?


Danby's Consumer Help Line (1-800-263-2629) is always busy. So, I called their General number: 419-425-8627. The receptionist transferred my call to their Service dept. My call was answered in 2 minutes.

The Service Rep. described the following code for my dehumidifier model (DDR657EE):
P1 = Defrosting: the unit will go into Defrost mode periodically to ensure that the parts are working at the right operating temperature. It should be in Defrost (P1) mode for only a brief period of time. If the unit is in Defrost (P1) mode continuously for a couple of hours (or more), then you should call Danby Service for further assistance.

He had no documentation of a P2 code for my model.

He also described other General Codes (applicable to most Dehumidifier/Humidifier models):
E1 = Not enough water
E2 = Not draining
E3 = Water temperature too cool
E4 = Overflow Switch activated
E6 / E7 = Problem with Temperature Sensor

My model is DDR4009EE, after it run for a while, the display changed from RH to "P1",what does "P1" mean?

I wish to purchase DDR606 dehumidifier. Will need to place a pump into bucket to send water up basement wall and out thru window. Will this work with this model? Thanx!


This will work for all models. You just need to get a condensate pump. Hook drain from dehumidifier to the condensate pump. the dehumidifier will need to be higher than the pump so it can drain.

P1 error


Your question needs to be answered in 3 parts:

1) As per the manual for my Danby Dehumidifier (Model DDR657EE), the unit may not turn on immediately when powered On (it may take a several minutes). So, generally, it would be normal in your case.

2) Danby's Consumer Help Line (1-800-263-2629) is always busy. So, I called their General number: 419-425-8627. The receptionist transferred my call to their Service dept. My call was answered in 2 minutes.

The Service Rep. described the following code for my dehumidifier model (DDR657EE):

3) Since your unit keeps running (continuously) and there is no water in the bucket, then you should call Danby ServiceI for additional assistance - it seems defective for this reason.
