Question about Hitachi P42H401 42 in. Plasma HDTV
The 42" TV will not power on. Opened up the back and checked for any obvious problems, but I don't see any scorched or burned parts. Seems to be the power supply stage. I can hear a relay or switch flip shortly after turning the TV on. I then hear what I can best describe as a chirping noise coming from a large transformer on the power supply board (at least that is where I believe the sound is coming from).
The transformer is part # 1JE0081
If someone can supply the service manual I could measure the voltages that go to the digital section. I'm guessing that this transformer switches the 120V AC to a lower voltage before being rectified and then regulated via the IC regulators on the power stage.
Can anyone provide some assistance? or perhaps the service manual for this TV so I can work on it? Thanks

The general problem with LCD type TV's is that the power supply
fails. They are very sophisticated designs that are difficult to
troubleshoot and generally best to just replace the module, but
sometimes there is visible damage in some of the electrolytic
capacitors (visibly bulged) and high voltage rated parts can be

SOURCE: ESA 42" plasma tv not turning on
you have a bad power supply, is shorted so you need to replace it , do not turn it on or you will burn some other items and then the cost to fix it will increase drastically.

SOURCE: 55HDS69 Power Supply problem
I have found that the power supply is usually good, it's the other boards that tell it to shut down within a second. There are input called Vsego and VSago that tell the power supply to stay on.

I had the Same issue. on a 50PF9431D/37 set. Many Plasma Set's use a LJ44-00118A PS-505-PH Power supply from Samsung. Known to have this common problem. If you can, or have a friend that can Solder components?. Unplug your set remove the back panel & locate your power supply. It will be the PCB in the center of the set just above the Video/Audio connections. http://www.shopjimmy.com/power-supply-unit-lj44-00118a-from-philips-50mf231d-40.htm. Is a Link to a photo of the PCB. Make a note of the locations of all cable connections then unplug them all. Un-install PCB, Check all Fuse first. I believe their is 5 or 6 of them on the PCB. Then replace the two 3300uf 10v 105C Radial capacitors at C8060 & C8059. Look to see if the Caps are deformed and or split at the top. The location of the caps are in the Lower bottom edge of the PCB. A local shop may Carrie them if not, digi-key has them. Part # http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=493-1754-ND. Total cost was $7 with S/H.
