My system hard disk shown as empty after reset because the shut down command did not work.
Not sure if I can help you here but will try , you say that you had a failed shutdown and after that the system reboot sequence was gone ?. Sorry to say it sounds like the type of thing that would happen if your laptop was virus Infected and the partion has been wiped . Or you may be lucky and your HD has simply become unplugged due to a bump or a jolt this would also explain the failed shutdown as it lost command structure to proceed ( sometimes they just vibrate loose ) .. On the downer side it could be that your computer Ide has failed , to check this Start the computer and follow the advice to enter Bios either press F2 or Delete etc .. look at general configuration and see if it is showing your hard drive as present .. if it is breathe a sigh of relief it's not the computer . If it isnt dont panic yet as a HD without the correct partion information will not register as present . close the the bios and if it asks to save present configuration providing you have not altered anything say yes.. if you have altered anything say no and exit . If you didn't see that the hard drive was there find it and make sure that it is seated properly into the IDE plug on the laptop.. then place your windows disk in the CD drive and choose boot from cd when asked ( or a system Floppy disk if this is how Windows was entered ) choose repair and hope that it will repair your drive if not you may have to do a raw reload and reinstall windows by formatting the drive and starting again all infornmation will be lost already on disk hope this helps any problems email me on [email protected]... To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc or
a operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot from
it. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with white
letters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice the
percentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run to
completion. Then reboot machine.
If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.
Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents,
music, pictures, videos or programs.
In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair when
the options appear.
In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recovery
console and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.
