Can't find my MAC address

I can't find the MAC address on my new HP 2140. Where would it be? Do I have one? If not, how can I get one so I can hook up my computer to our netgear wireless setup?

Media Access Control address (MAC address) is a unique identifier assigned to most network adapters or network interface cards (NICs) by the manufacturer for identification, and used in the Media Access Control protocol sublayer. If assigned by the manufacturer, a MAC address usually encodes the manufacturer's registered identification number. It may also be known as an Ethernet Hardware Address (EHA), hardware address, adapter address, or physical address.
If you have a wireless card or a ethernet connection you will have a MAC address.
Go to start > Run > type in cmd (return) > type in ipconfig /all (return).  Your MAC address will be the set of numvbers after the text Physical Address . . . . 00-00-00-00-00-00.

All network adaptors have a MAC adress.

Go to RUN and type CMD [hit enter] you get the DOS window

Type: ipconfig /all

You will get all information about all the adaptors on your PC. Cable, wireless, Bluetooth etc etc. The MAC is the line named Physical Adress and will look something like this

00-1d-e0-87-bd-77

Hi, here is a solution for your problem: Obtaining your MAC address
Your MAC address will normally be on the box or registration card for your computer or individual ethernet card. If you can not find it, please follow the instructions below depending on your operating system.
Windows Vista:

  1. Click on Start Button.
  2. Click on All Programs.
  3. Click on Accessories.
  4. Click on System Tools.
  5. Click on System Information.
  6. Click on plus sign in front of Components.
  7. Click on plus sign in front of Network.
  8. Click on Adapter.
  9. Scroll down to your Network Interface Card and it will list the MAC Addresss. (Make sure you do not get the wireless adapter).

WINDOWS NT, 2000, or XP:
  1. Using your mouse, click on the Start Button.
  2. Click on Programs.
  3. Click on Accessories, and then Command Prompt.
  4. Once a small black window appears, type in ipconfig /all (with a space between the g and the /).
  5. Locate the number to the right of Physical Address. This is your MAC address.
WINDOWS 95/98/ME:
  1. After clicking on the Start Button, click on Run.
  2. In the white space of the window, type in the word winipcfg
  3. Click on "OK".
  4. Look under the info for the Ethernet adapter. (Your system may also have a modem.)
  5. The number next to "Adapter Address" is your MAC address.
Hope this helps.

Argox cp 2140

Argox only has windows printer drivers. OS X is really just a variant of Unix / Linux, so it may be easier to find a driver for Unix.

Often if you set a printer up on a network, like plugged into your router, you can use a generic driver to your printer's assigned ip address. This may not be easy for you if you are not familiar with setting printers up on a network. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Re boot the computer with ,( wired or wireless printer?), the printer cable in the USB port in the laptop/desktop, the windows version you have will ID the device and try to load a driver, or Go to printer in the start menu and ADD a PRINTER the software will search for the attached printer. OR use the software that came with the printer, load into the Dell and follow the instructions.

How to change mac address?

Every Ethernet card has a MAC address burned-in at the factory. At times, you may want to change this MAC address to one of your own choosing.
The procedures to change a MAC address are specific to each operating system.
How to change a MAC address in Microsoft Windows Under Windows, the MAC address is stored in a registry key. To change a MAC address, find that key with `regedit` and change it. Of course, Microsoft keeps moving the location of the key around!
Windows XP adds an option to change the MAC address on some network cards under the Advanced tab in the network adapter's Properties menu.
A much easier and more reliable method to change a MAC address under Windows is to use a software utility program designed to do this for you.
Macshift is a free utility that you can use to spoof your MAC address under Microsoft Windows.
How to change a MAC address in MacOS Instructions for changing the MAC address on a Macintosh can be found at MAC Spoofing on the Macintosh.
How to change a MAC address in FreeBSD In FreeBSD, you can change your MAC address with the `ifconfig <interface> link <address>` command.
How to change a MAC address in Linux Under Linux, you can change your MAC address with `ifconfig <interface> hw <class> <address>`, or you can use the GNU MAC Changer.
How to change a MAC address in Solaris In Solaris, you can change the MAC address with the `ifconfig <interface> <ether> <address>` command.
How to change a MAC address in OpenBSD OpenBSD does not, by default, allow you to change the MAC address. It is possible to change the MAC address under OpenBSD with sea.c.
How to change a MAC address in HP-UX Under HP-UX, you can change the MAC address in SAM by selecting Networking and Communications, then selecting the interface, then Action, Modify, Advanced Options. HP-UX refers to the MAC address as the "station address".
Changing a MAC Address in Hardware Speed Demon Adapters sells network cards which give you the ability to change the MAC address stored in their EERPROM.
This can give you the ability to change your MAC address under any operating system that supports either the PCI bus or PCMCIA Type II cards.

Cannot connect to the internet

Are you running the setup disc provided by comcast to get your email setup?

If you are , you do not really need that disc as it provides useless and often outdated junk on the disc. You should be able to surf the internet by plugging in your Ethernet Cord into the laptop with no problem.

On the issue of the Comcast user name and password, this was originally used at the original configuration of the modem when it is wallgardened.

You can always call Comcast and have then activate the modem for you. You'll need the Mac address at the bottom of your modem to activate it over the phone.

Online Activation usually requires your customer account number. But since it looks like you do not have this data, you will need to call them directly.

Hooking up Linksys router to my Mac OSX, last step according to web page help is to enter ISP's settings and name it. Suppose to go to http://192.168.1.1 using password 'admin'. Cannot find where to do...

Is the router plugged into your mac? it has to be to get into that address, its a private address. You want to hook up all the cables then tell the mac to acquire a new IP or reboot it to get the new ip, then you should be able to enter that IP address and be brought into the linksys setup page.

Wirelesss web access?

you have to acquire the MAC address from the game console and go to your routers MAC configuration and add that mac address. Since you have wireless, you need a secure connection so the mac address has to be set for all users. All non known mac addresses and IP's will be blocked and not able to connect to your PC
