Question about Marantz DR-4050 2-Disc CD Recorder

The left hand CD Recorder deck does not work, says "insert disc"

I played a CD in the left hand deck, hit "pause", went on with the evening and the unit remained on overnight. This morning there was just a hissing, static noise in the speakers. I turned the unit off, let it cool down, but now the left hand deck does not seem to function. It does not play at all, and when I put a correct blank CD-R in it and try to record from the right hand deck, the only message I get is "insert disc." So it does not seem to recognize either a disc to be played or recorded. This has been a great unit for us. Can it be repaired? Is there a comparable unit available if not? Thanks. Ben

SOURCE: I have freestanding Series 8 dishwasher. Lately during the filling cycle water hammer is occurring. How can this be resolved

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: problem with Sony RCD-W1 CD recorder

'No audio' comes up when you use the wrong type of cdr in the drive. You need a 'consumer audio' or 'music' specific CDR and not a generic computer cdr to use in these units.

The optics are most likely defective. Yes you will need to replace the optics assembly. I don't have a location for parts outside of the US, but you should be able to locate a parts distributor for Marantz in Europe.

Sony Music CD-R's available at Target (purple packaging not red - must be music not data). I had been using the TDK's from Costco until I started having issues similar to yours. Sony's work perfect - no issues ever.

Why doesn't it record to md?

You can't make a copy of a copy of a digitally recorded MiniDisc, so make sure that isn't what's happening- if so, it usually says "Din Unlock" and you can't record. I think when I record from one deck to the other digitally, I have set the recording deck to "REC", then I hit 'play' on both decks at the same time. Using the digital input, it should automatically set your track marks. You cannot make a digital copy of this MiniDisc, BUT you can make an Analog copy. Let me know if you need more info.

Put a blank cd in the right deck; put the one you are recording from in the left deck. Close door. Punch dub.. after it scan all the tracks, then punch play/select on the right hand side, then it will dub it for you. Once it gets thru dubbing; hit finalize - lights blink twice, then hit finalize again. once lights go out it's finished dubbing and you can play it back to hear your recording...

Deck A will not play/Deck B OK

Sounds like the CDR deck has an issue. When the disc comes out has it's position changed i.e has it been spun at all? Can you hear any motors moving? Does it work with any type of disc ( cd/cdr/cdrw)?

Lost the manual, can't get hooked up

You need to use an audio CDr, data or computer CDr's will not work in this machine. I don't know this specific machine, but usually you select the input, then 'rec type' eg manual,1 track or 1 disc, then press record to get into record pause, start your source, then press play on the unit to start recording. To finalize, you press finalize then either the play or rec button to start the finalize process.
