The most like ly reason is your solenoid coils are weak from use. This in most cases allows the igniter to glow and you may hear the gas valve try to open. Go to the site below and enter model number LGR5636LQ1 in the model search feature. There you will see the parts and free help. Thank, Sea Breeze

Whirlpool dryer heating sporadically?

Remove the lower front panel and turn dryer on. The ignitor should glow bright orange first. After Ignitor glows brightly the next thing will be the flame lighting as the gas valve opens with a click. All this should happen within about a minute or so.

If flame comes on but goes off quickly It's likely one of the Gas valve coils is opening a break in the coil as the coil heats up. This coil will shrink when cool and be able to run again. The coils are purchased as a kit.

If ignitor goes off and no flame comes on the coil kit is likely needed because one coil is fully broken inside its case. If flame goes on but shuts off shortly the problem is as described above and the kit is needed.

There is a flame safety assembly on the can above the burner. If the airflow is poor. the flame tip may activate that safety and turn the flame off. Or the flame switch may be open and not allow the flame to come on at all.

The Flame switch can be tested for continuity with an ohmeter but the valves may ONLY show bad with power applied and can not be tested with a meter as they will test good.. Good Luck

Hello there:
Here is some helpful advice for you to check out first ok
Hope that al of this is very helpful for you
Best regards Richard

Most likely your gas valve has a defective solenoid. You can verify this by visually looking at the glow coils operation.
The first click you hear will ignite the glow coil. If the glow coil does glow a very bright yellow white color, that solenoid is working. If the glow coil fails to light, replace that part only. <Use caution-glow coils are not cheap and break easily.>

If the coil glows but you do not hear the second click, which opens the second gas valve to allow the gas to exit to the burner, you will need to remove the gas valve assembly and replace both solenoids.

The solenoids are located on the top of the gas valve and are black plastic coated spool looking items. They are held in place by a retaining plate.

Carefully, remove and replace them with the new ones. <They only fit on the steel rod one way.> Replace the gas valve assembly, attach the quick disconnect wire clips and soap test the gasline nut you unconnected.

If the soap test proves there isn't any gas leaks, fire up the dryer and your done.

Glow coil's cost about $50.00.
Pair of solenoids slightly less.

Have a Whirlpool Gas Dryer - model # lgr7646a spins but no heat

Thre is no pilot light. This dryer uses an ignitor (glow bar or coil).
Open the lower front "door" (small access door) and turn on dryer.
If the ignitor does not glow (bright orange), then the ignitor needs to be replaced ($60).
If it does glow, then the gas valve needs replacement ($60).
If it isd the valve, the internal spring is stuck. Do not try to repair it, you must replace it.

Will not ignite .Drum turns and all setting seem to work .

First, check the ignitor and see if it is working. It should glow visibly if it is working. If the ignitor is working, but the burner won't light, the most likely cause are the gas valve coils. These electrical coils are located right above the gas valves. When energized, these solenoids open the gas valves and permit the burner to light. If defective, they don't permit the gas valves to open. Due to the difficulty in testing these solenoids, it is recommended that both (all) be replaced at once if any are suspected of being faulty. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Glow plug lights but does not fire gas everything

This is most likely faulty gas valve coils. These electrical coils are located just above the gas valves and when energized, these solenoids open the gas valves and permit the burner to light. If faulty, the gas valves cannot open and the burner cannot light. Due to the difficulty in testing these solenoids, it is recommended that both (all) be replaced at once if any are suspected of being faulty. Hope this helped and best wishes.

First, check that the ignitor is working properly. If it is working properly, it should glow an orange color when activated. If the ignitor is defective, it will need replaced. If the ignitor is working properly, the problem is most likely the gas valve coils. These small black coils are situated directly above the gas valves. I have a kirkland by whirlpool gas dryer that wont heat, any suggestions, all it seems to do is tumble

First, check the ignitor. If it is working properly it should glow noticeably. If the ignitor is working and the burner will not light, I would look at the gas valve coils. These small black electrical coils are right above the gas valves. These solenoids open the gas valves when energized. If faulty, the gas valves are not opened and the burner cannot light. My gas dryer won't heat but will run it's a duet and i changed the glow plug or igniter

Since you replaced the ignitor and if it is operating normally, it should glow visibly. If the ignitor is operating properly and the burner is not lighting, then I would look at faulty gas valve coils as being the problem. The coils are located right above the gas valves. These solenoids, when energized, open the gas valves. If they are faulty, the gas valves won't open and the burner won't light. Due to the difficulty in testing these coils, it is best when replacing them to replace both (all) of them at once. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Watch the igniter. Does it glow bright orange, then shut off without igniting the gas? (When the gas ignites there's a large blue flame.) If so, there may be defective coils on the gas valve. Mounted on the top of modern gas valves, there are black electrical coils. The coils, when energized, open the gas valve. If one or more of the coils are defective, the valve doesn't open and the gas cannot ignite. Because it's often difficult to properly test the coils, it's usually best to replace both (all) of them at the same time.

The coils are the #1 failure in gas dryers, below is a description of how they work. This excerpt from; www.repairclinic.com.
