Computer does not recongnize connection

The computer no longer recognizes my beyond micro 500 gig harddrive. I suspect that it MIGHT be the usb connecting wire but I am not sure.

What do you mean that your computer does not recognize the hard drive?

-> Do you mean that when you plug the hard drive in, it powers up but your computer cannot find the drivedrive path on "My Computer"?

-> or it doesn't even power up?

-> have you tried plugging it into someone else's computer to test if it works on thier computer? If it works on their computer, maybe the drive letter has been over written on your computer.

-> when you plug in the hard drive, on the tool bar on the bottom of the screen, is there a bubble stating "found new hardware"?

Sorry for all the questions, but it is easier when you have more information to help solve your issue.

Connect your harddrive to another computer like windows xp then if it is recognize then take data backup . If your harddrive is fine then follow below for laptop. First make sure usb cable connected to harddrive is working fine.
try it in different usb ports.
Press windows key +R key so you can see run then type in run "devmgmt.msc" then press ok so you can see device manager uninstall all usb drivers then it automatic install usb drivers.
then check.
Also you need to change registry for that type in run "regedit" then press ok then you can see registry editor then locate below key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11 CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
And remove upper filter and lower filter. Then restart computer then check.

My computer does not recognize the external hard drive. Hard drive makes grounding sound

Sorry, the hard disk inside your external enclosure has suffered a mechanical failure and died. It's unfixable so take it out of the enclosure and replace it.

The only thing to do is make sure you go through all Windows Updates. Then go to manufacturer's website and download Win 7 drivers. Then install via add new hardware. Sounds more like a USB driver issue...

You better check with the Seagate people. This seems to be a problem with the casing. And since you're under warranty, you can get a replacement.

Beyond micro mobile disk BMMDU2 is not recognized

The drive USB interface may be damaged; an external case is available form various vendors for about $20. The drive should pop out and into the new case. If still not recognized, then the ID track on the drive may be compromized - that can happen if the USB is unplugged while it is still writing to the drive. There is drive recovery software out there, like EASEUS that works quite well (they have a demo that you can try free) to see if that would work.

Did a system recovery on pc now can't find my harddrive

Hi Shannon,
yes, you could - and should - connect the external harddrive directly to your pc in case it throws errors. You will need to do this in any case to figure out, what is wrong with the drive.

Connect the USB cable to your PC and check whether the drive is recognized by your Operating System. If it fails to be detected get back to us and we will try to help you.
