Steve The part you are inquiring about is called the ballast, It is a small (say 3" x 8" ) circuit board that attatches directly to the bulb via the two pronged leads coming off the bulb. On this set you'll have to take the back off to get to it. Once you do, you'll see it right infront of the optics block, just a couple screws will loosen it. There is a white and black power line and a sleeved reciever line connected to it. Get the model number off your ballast and go to or ebay and replace. If I remember correctly. There are several compatible ballasts for this set. Rule of thumb though, is that just because it looks the same doesn't mean it is. Call samsung, they will also sell you the newest, latest and greatest ballast. You can just ask them for a part number too and then shop around. Good luck.

Something else you might want to check is the color wheel. These tv's are from circa '03 and the color wheels are an achillies heel for the samsung dlp. You will actually be able to see the color wheel if you look into the spot that the lamp housing occupies, just past where the lamp shines is a 2x2 clear piece of glass, beyond that you will see a part of the color wheel. It should be a symetrical pattern with no missing 'pie' pieces of the wheel. If you see somthing broken, comment back and I'll walk you though the process of checking and replacing the wheel, You can also email me directly at

Well I bought my about three years ago and that warning was poping on for about a year. The lamp finally went out, I should have got a replacement sooner. But I ran it longer than it should have gone, I think I read the lamp should last about 2 years, I got an extra year out of it. Oh well time for a new one...

Power issues (Tv not turning on) were typically due to faulty ballast. While the TV reports a bad lamp it is the ballast itself causing the issue. Samsung is well aware and will replace both the ballast and the lamp (since the lamp can be prematurely aged but the bad ballast). After replacment most people stop having issues.

I have the same model and had the same problem after replacing the lamp. Turns out if the cover plate is not put back on properly, tv will not power on and lamp ligth comes on. To solve the problem all I had to do is tighten the cover plate screw. Hope this helps.
