Can I hook a power inverter to a separate battery than my vehicle and use an outler from the inverter to hook a battery charger up and keep the battery powering the inverter charged?

Sounds good in theory doesn't it, but Mr Newton and his theories tell you why that won't work. You can't make power, by using that power to make more. Energy always diminishes, so it may work for a very short time. If you use an external power source to charge your inverter battery, it will certainly charge the other battery but not in an everlasting circle. Eventually, you will have two flat batteries..

I'm dumb. Can I hook an inverater to my generator and produce more enegry than my generator produces???

Please understand that the generator produces power from fuel with an engine wheras the invertor is one which genrerates power from a stored battery using the principle of frequency switching a DC source to induct and produce AC.
Now you can have an uninterupted power supply setting with the invertor backed up by the generator so that when the battery voltage goes down you can start and charge the invertor and also supply the extra energy .
the ratings of both must also be considered.

Can this equipment be used bidirectionslly? i.e.

you can use an invertor to power a battery charger to charge the boat battery but you could not use the invertor to charge the battery it was running from as the invertor will use power faster then the battery could be charged

Buy a long phone cord or however long youneed. Run it temporarily to the remote board and the invertor. Make sure powrr is off during this stage. If this doesn't work the solution is probaly going tobe much tougher. See manual.

More than likely you may a a relay that is stuck or not energizing which should switch the charging mode over automatically. Trace back from the generator to the charging circuit for the batteries. I'm not sure where the relay (or solinoid) would be located but you can be assured it is something in the charger sensing/switching circuit.

Good Luck! Gary

Is this inverter powerful enough?

You are right. This is not enough to operate this freezer. You are going to need a bigger invertor it get it to work properly 900 or 1000 watt should be efficient even though it is not the best way to run the unit. If the unit has a problem you would be replacing the inverter all the time. Just FYI

Power Supply How To

Because inverters operate from a DC (Direct Current) power source, usually a battery bank (one or more batteries), the battery source will have to be recharged at some point. (Remember that a battery discharged more than 50% is probably close to being dead.) Most cars and trucks recharge their batteries from an onboard alternator. Depending on the inverter load and runtime required, most power use applications will be covered by the charged battery, augmented by the operating alternator supplying a continuous charge to the battery. If the load is large (air conditioner, large draw power tools, large microwave, food freezer, ice cream machine, etc.), the user should verify that the installed vehicle alternator is of large enough capacity to operate the vehicle's power requirement as well as to fulfill the capacity of the inverter load. If it’s not, a motor throttle installation may be required to carry a small load, a larger alternator may be required, or a larger alternator, battery isolator and additional onboard battery bank may be required in order to meet the power requirement of the large load. Remember: it takes 12 DC Amps (at 12 VDC) to run 1 AC Amp (at 120 VAC single-phase) of power because there are voltage and efficiency factors to take into consideration.
