Question about Mitsubishi VS-55705 55" Rear Projection Television

Mitsubishi 55-inch Prjection HD

I don't have the model number with me.  We purchased the set in January 2001.

The picture is intermittently, but with increasing frequency looking like this:

Is this something that can usually be repaired at a reasonable cost?  Above $1,000, we might just buy  new set.

Re: Mitsubishi 55-inch Prjection HD

If You cant adjust the convergence through the convergence menu. Chances are its your convergence ICs. Some mitsubishi set are famous for having bad solder joints on the ICs. I would check that out first, but be careful there is always a risk of getting shocked if your not famillar with TV diagnosis and repair, even after the plug has been pulled. If you feel comfortable checking the solder joints. you'll be looking for huge ICs attached to huge heat sinks with 18 pins. There are two seperate ICs

It needs to be repaired by having the convergence ICs replaced or resoldered (if intermittent).

Parts are STK 392-570. Be sure to use thermal paste on the ICs.

Hello I have a 2001 hd phillips 62 inch widescreen and my tv seems 2 be getting slightly darker ,now somebody told me its a light bulb starting to go out is that the case and how much is the bulb

In 2001 most of the sets that are rear projection do not use a bulb--if just slightly darker--you may just need to clean lens----easy to do.

Let me know model number and I will advise you.

If it is a convergence problem I have detailed step by step instructions for this repair on most Mitsubishi sets---depending on model number ws-55805 etc---I can tell you what parts are needed and the best place to get them---the instructions also tell you everything you will need to do this repair---usual parts cost is usually under 30 dollars total.

Let me know the exact model number and I will assist you---if you need the instructions let me know ---I am not allowed to post MY email address here but you.....

It is very common in this brand of set to have the problem you have described---a convergence IC can be intermittent----most of these sets use two----there are some that only use one.

You can probably purchase a smilar set on Craig's list for $300.00, at least that's what they go for in the Austin Texas area.
A new tube may be too expensive and difficult to replace.

I have a Mitsubishi 55 inch rear projection tv, ws55819 on which the convergance is gone bad. I'm getting a concave picture with multiple colors and black lines with a blurred picture. this happens mutiple...

Your reference to concave picture suggests a high voltage problem and not convergence. If the raster can't scan from left to right , top to bottom, your having High voltage trouble. if your colors are not dropping on top of each other that is convergence. I would suggest it may be time to consider a purchase of the new HD set for the cost of this repair. good luck

Same blinking problem with my 55" HD 1080 Series TV.

That model Mitsubishi is a 65 inch set not 55. And if the blinking you are talking about is the Power LED continually blinking green and otherwise dead it is because the digital module is not booting up. I have repaired many of them and this is done by replacing components in the digital module. Average repair cost is around $200 to $300 depending on where you live. That particular set is well worth the repair. If yours is a 55 inch instead the same still holds true.
