There might be one step you could try to restore the system to factory specifications. When you turn the laptop on, and you see the Acer splash screen, press the Alt-F10 keys together at the same time, and this should hopefully bring the Acer eRecovery system up, provided that your computer has the built-in recovery partition. If it asks for a password, try using the default of "000000". If that doesn't work, then a password has been entered into the system, and there is no way to reset it, however there is a way to find out what the password is, however it does require the use of the Ubuntu Operating System (which is free to download, here)

if ever it doesn't work, how will I figure out the password with the use of Ubuntu. I know how to use this OS by making it portable to a usb/(or in other external drives), I can also browse files within it. Just the steps on how to figure this password.

(My brother have the same problem but it is some kind of worse because everytime it happens, after fixing by reformatting and/or backup, after a meantime about weeks, problem exists all over again.)

    Pls help.

Asus eee pc not booting

Try to go to BIOS and run a HDD test.

To Go to BIOS turn on the NoteBook and Keep Pressing F2 and you will enter the BIOS set up.
Search for Hard Drive Test Option from the Menus
If the Test Passes then you need to Reload the Windows OS or if the Test Fails you need to get a New HDD

Hello, I had recently tried to restore my hp laptop to factory settings, I had pressed F11 and followed the set instructions, ,but recovery manger said it cannot recover from recovery dvd so i tried...

go to the start menu and key on the program lower tab. The go to accessories. Click on command prompt which takes you to the DOS screen.
Now you will see a blinking cursor on the black screen which all you need to do is to type in chkdsk /f /r

This will repair any programs that were not running correctly. after it is done your computer may reboot itself. If not reboot it and see what it does, Itshould work fine unless deeper problems in the EXE BATCH FILE is present

Blank screen blinking underscore Toshiba laptop after startup

if you can get into the BIOS-setup, verify if your hard drive is recognised as a bootable device and set as first boot device. if the disk is not recognised, you might want to verify if the P-ATA/S-ATA controllers are enabled. if this is all the case, but the problem remains, then your hard disk is probably broken.

I have a ten year old compaq presario. i turned it on and a black screen came up with a white underscore at the top left corner. the underscore blinks repeatedly forever! i have looked inside my computer...

It sounds like the Hard disk has failed. You might be able to replace it if you can get one from a computer swap meet. but you are likely up for a new PC.

Blank screen nothing left

ok...do you have the install CD around? Slip that into the cd/dvd reader, and restart. The system should read that, and ask to reinstall your o/s. Hopefully, your data is still good on your hard drive.
