Crafstman chainsaw at full power when started

My father-in-law said that he needed a new primer bulb installed and gave me the new one. while he was out i also had to replace some fuel supply line and fired it up. it went straight to full power without me squeezing the trigger. this is too dangerous and i need info on how to resolve this problem.

as soon as i start the chainsaw it goes to full throttle as if i were squeezing the trigger when i'm not at all. my father in law asked me today to try and make adjustments on the walbro carburator. he said there is a throttle and 2 mixture screws.

do you have lock throttle and trigger together befor start?

Do you have an owner's manual? Some newer chainsaws (mine for example) normally operate this way. You squeeze the throttle again and it goes to idle.

If you had this apart, a few things may have happened. First the linkage from carb to throttle trigger maybe jammed between plastic housing or linkage may have come apart and throttle is in the full open position. You'll have to take this apart again and follow the linkage between carb and throttle trigger to ensure all is connected and moving freely and properly. Use care when putting housing back together.

I picked up a Crafstman chainsaw mod 316.350840. Its all in peices which is not a problem except for the carb. it has 3 fuel line ports. what is the 3rd one for?

fuel return line back to the tank
if it has a primer bulb , one line will go there , one for the suction line for the diaphragm and the return line for excess fuel back to the tank to prevent flooding
go google and down load the pdf version of the workshop manual

It does not start

During maintenance or replacement of the hoses it is easy to swap the hose connections at the primer. The center connection from the primer connects to the return hose that connects into the tank. The feed from the carburetor connects to the side connection of the primer bulb.

If the tank is full it can fool you as you prime because the return line to the tank that is full can be a pickup of unfiltered fuel and bring debris and air into the carburetor.

The primer pulls the fuel through the carburetor purging the air out. Usually seven strokes are recommended. You can observe through the primer bulb the air as it is purged resulting in no air left in the primer or carburetor..

I took my father in law's Remington 1.25hp

PRAY! NEVER BORROW a father in laws equipment!!!! Let it sit for a short time and cool down and then see if it will start. I would also check the air filter and make sure that it isn't plugged!

Has Ryobi RCS 3535A chainsaw a fuel bulb priming

The numbers you supply don't cross to an operators manual but that is typical of Homelite/Ryobi. I'm going to make an educated guess that it does not have a primer system. Other Ryobi saws with primer systems include it in the specification. The 3535A does not. Close scrutiny reveals no primer.
IMO fuel primers on chainsaws are one more source of problems. In the USA ethanol additives attack fuel hoses. Without a primer routing is from the fuel tank directly to the carburetor and much simpler to replace. Primers on chainsaws operate differently than 4 cycle engines too. No fuel is injected into the carburetor or engine, its only purpose is to ensure the carburetor is full of fuel,
Typical Fuel hose routing:
  • The hose in the tank with the filter on the free end connects directly to the carburetor input connection.
  • If the saw is equipped with a primer bulb, an output line from the carburetor connects to the suction side of the primer (once the bulb is collapsed it draws fuel from the tank through the carburetor to refill as it inflates).
  • The pressure side of the primer returns displaced fuel to the tank as it is depressed.

I have a McCulloch 3200 chainsaw on which I installed a new primer bulb and fuel lines. The old fuel lines were broken. I figured out which line runs to the carb from the primer bulb but where does the...

From the fuel tank to the carb, from the carb to the primer, from the primer back to the fuel tank. The bulb sucks fuel through the carb excess fuel is returned to the tank. HTH

John Deere S1400 won't start

I have the same problem. I replaced the primer bulb, and the fuel lines. Still no gas to the bulb; (It ran fine before I replaced the primer bulb)

The primer is split..

Normally there is a couple of screws beside the primer bulb. Remove screws, remove primer plate. Remove primer and install new one. Some have tabs on each side of the primer. Use needle nose to squeeze these together while you push up to release the bulb.
