You did not mention your picture file types. mostly default software in windows only supported opening jpeg formats. other file types like those captured by high end camera can be open with photoshop or similar software. to check this right click on the picture and on the popup option go to open with> your system might suggest application that can open your picture usually windows photo viewer or MS office picture manager

SOURCE: Installation Failed message trying to install Win XP SP3 on Gateway MX3225 laptop

What are you trying to install? It got cut off.

Swap file is set in different locations depending on your operating system, so please provide that as well.

However, the swap file is not related to installing an application or Windows.

Another thing to check, is to see how much RAM you have. Windows Vista says you can run it with 1Gig of RAM but it really needs 3Gig to work well. You'll also need to double check your CPU, CPU speed, hard drive space free.

Please let me know those things, then I'll be better able to assist you.

SOURCE: help and support not opening

This will be a virus or hard drive problem. Run you anti virus to see if it finds anything that may be eating up your system. If doesn't find anything, then try a system repair with your recovery or operating system disc, this will fix the missing or corrupt files. If you have any issues during or after the repair then you can assume that the hard drive is going out. More that likely a sector is going bad.

SOURCE: Cannot open any word documents, pdfs, photos etc.

Hi angela_sing
You can open your word documents, but not the ones sent by others, and you say you could open them before.
Well, I think the person(s) who sent the word documents before have upgraded to Word 2007. An earlier version will have difficulty in reading newer versions, so requires conversion. First of all, please check with the people who send you the word documents before you reinstall the O/S
Regarding photos, normally you would click on them and they open. But if a photo does not open in this manner, try the following:
Rifht click on the name of the file - you get a popup menu - instead of clicking on OPEN, you click on the OPEN WITH, Now a list of programs will appear which may be able to open your photo. Try each one of them, am pretty sure you will be lucky.
The same method can be used for your Word file as well.
Wish you all luck.
If this solution help you, please give a rating.

If you have a Windows recovery CD/DVD for your version of Windows, you can try inserting that (booting from the CD/DVD) and the selecting "repair an existing installation". I know this works for Windows XP. That should save your documents and files but reinstall windows (and the bootloader); however, if they are crucial/irreplaceable files you might want to get someone to back them up for you just in case.

Unable to import photos to laptop

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Windows Photo Gallery or Picasa.

I can't load new pics onto Windows Vista Photo Gallery anymore...

I finally figured it out. Somehow I had messed with the Autoplay settings uploading pics the last time I guess. Anyways, if you experience this problem, check this out first and see if it fixes it for you before you do anything else:

gl_arrow_down_static.gif What if the import dialog box doesn't appear? If the dialog box prompting you to import your pictures doesn't appear when you connect the camera to your computer, AutoPlay might be turned off. You can import your pictures using Windows Photo Gallery instead. Here's how:
1. Open Windows Photo Gallery by clicking the Start button getopencontent.aspx?assetid=4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33&documentset=en-us&renderkey=xml, clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Photo Gallery.
2. On the toolbar, click File, and then click Import from Camera or Scanner.
3. In the Import Pictures and Videos dialog box, choose your camera from the list of devices, and then click Import.
gl_alert_vert.png gl_icon_tip.png If you prefer, you can turn on AutoPlay or set AutoPlay to automatically import pictures from a digital camera. For more information, see Change AutoPlay Settings. gl_alert_vert.png gl_alert_bg_tip.png

Photos wont open

There seems to be a corruption of file type between camera and computer The fact that the computer wont play mov. but the camera will if back loaded seems odd. JPEG files can and do go wonky if back loaded to camera after editing because essential info for the camera has been deleted. A JPEG file as produced by a camera is properly called an EXIF file because has has EXtendedINformation. Lose it and the camera wont know it. Like wise older PC's such Win 98 and older software don't know about EXIF so they chop it off So something like that is happening here. Check out Tech Support at Kodak see what they can tell you.
