Sound but no picture. I'm thinking I need a new picture tube but how much is it going to cost me?

First make sure to hit the menu button on the TV's remote and if nothing is there then friend while the set is on turn a bright flashlight on and shine at angle into the set push the TV menu button if you can see a image then your back light is not working.
You can also check the transformers they are close to were the wires plug into the panel, make sure all transformers read the same amount of resistance if not you have found a bad one. Now you will have to check to see if the power supply is sending 24v to the backlight, if not the power supply is bad. Cost backlights around 150.00 and power supplies around 100.00. Well this should help you friend.

Main power light turns on but i have no picture or sound

Take a closer look at the power board fuses. There is a fuse numbered 106 a little ways away from the rest of them. I have this same model and got it working long enough to diagnose a bad flyback transformer by replacing this fuse with one from Radio Shack. At some times, I could put in a new fuse and have the set work for a few weeks. The flyback transformer is available from for around $60.

Rca tv won't power on

it may need a Flyback Transformer or a burnt capasitor and resistors. there are many posts with this same problem. Some a little different. Check the fuse just inside where the power supply cord goes in . if the fuse is blown you will have to find the reason it burned . But maybe you will be lucky and replace the fuse. And it will turn on. but I think that only a TV technician can fix the problem.I have a background on TV repair and I think it's the Flyback transformer. sometimes you canresolder them and they stay.

Need Help big screen turns on thens goes off

a tv has two components, firstly a power supply produces high voltage to trigger a line transformer, in turn a transformer produces smaller voltages. firstly check if the ht is constantly been produced from a supply, if this is there than go to a line transformer, and check voltages at the output.

Philips HDTV

usually the high pitch noiese like this indicate some kind of power supply problem. The power supplies inside are called "switching power supplies" and if they're overloaded will make the kind of sound you describe. It sounds like there's a serious problem within. Probably should have it serviced.

If you had an older set, I'd say the flyback transformer has malfunctioned, but I don't think they're in todays set.

Let me know what happens... please rate accordingly.

No power just a chirping noise.

Chirping means the power supply is being loaded down by a short in most cases, likely a bad convergance IC

No picture, sound and flashing red power light...

Pull off the back pressboard. At the bottom left hand corner is the power cord that attaches to the power supply board. There is a white plug that attaches directly to the power cord. With the TV power off, pull this white plug up to disconnect. Then push it back in. Then plug your TV back in and press the power button on the front of the TV. I just did this and it is working fine.

46" projection not coming on

You have an power supply problem & or a high voltage flyback transformer gone bad. The regulator is usually an STK followed by some numbers, located on a separate small board above the main chassis in the rear of the tv. The flyback is down on the main chassis & has a red high voltage lead wire coming out of it that goes to the high voltage/focus block.
