Definitely yes! It will present initially as a chirping sound, but if let go too long, it will grind

SOURCE: how do i lube my ballbearing joints in my 94- isuzurodeo 4cil.

I think you mean 'ball-joints,' part of the steering and suspension.
Most modern vehicles, with some exceptions, no longer have the Zerk fittings once found on each ball-joint, but 'lifetime' lubrication packed into the joint and decently sealed to prevent loss of grease and incursion of dirt and moisture. You may have sealed ball or roller bearings used in your wheels since the cone-type, adjustable bearings are also less common than they once were.
In my experience, these sealed assemblies have become ever more reliable as materials and manufacturing techniques have steadily improved.  Many such assemblies now really do last the usable life of our vehicles.

SOURCE: troubleshoot cause of noise

Its not a CV joint if your getting the noise in neutral. It would have to have something to do with the motor if your hearing it both in neutral & decelerating.Do you by some chance have an oil leak? Possiblly onto a clutch or timing belt?

2009 Nissan Murano wrnt threw heavy water now grinding noise on left side wheel

Water doesn't grind, now does it loosen bolts. But it does carry foreign debri, like rocks, into the narrow spaces between brake pads and rotor, or between brake caliper and wheel. Try hosing it out, or seek a shop that offer free brake inspections.

Does it grind always, or just in turns, and does braking make it worse?

A long shot is that a front wheel drive or all wheel drive, with bad CV boots could have washed the lube out of the Constant Velocity Joint on the drive axle. But that is a long shot, as it would yake some mikes and time to make a cv joint grind.

We just bought a 2001 Ford Windstar and it makes a thinking noise in the front right, what could that be? I was told a u-joint but do they make that sound? I thought maybe a spring

Hello Ataya Mickelson,

I'm thinking... you meant ticking...??

Yes they (UNIVERSAL JOINTS) do...
but I pulled up your car on-line and IT APPEARS
you have CV-Joints
(on your "half shafts" (axle, each side)).

So do CV-joints (constant velocity joints) generally always start with a faint ticking... (if dry or hot even squeal) ... these sounds can get a LOT LOUDER ... and quite dangerous.

These joints might progress to grinding and even banging...
or simply FAIL and come completely apart (catastrophic).

Something that should NOT BE IGNORED
.

PARTS are not expensive (see below):

Thinking has always been one of my travails... problems & joys
(when done properly)... but regardless of how well or poorly I have done it... It has always been completely SILENT...
(I'm just saying).

Best regards... hope this helps!!

1994 Land Rover Discovery Manual has a grinding and clunking noise from rear, right side

A grinding noise suggests a bearing at fault or perhaps worn pads on the brake rotor.

However, the clunking noise you mention could also point to a problem with the drive shaft or differential.

The first thing you should do is to get under the vehicle and try twisting the propshaft back and forth. If there's any movement this points towards a worn universal joint on the propshaft. A worn universal joint can cause a clunking noise - particularly when pulling away. The vibration caused by a worn universal joint can also damage bearings in the differential and also to the splined ends of the axle shaft.

You're also going to have to remove the wheel from where the noise comes from and examine the end of the axle shaft/bearing.

What is that grinding noise when I turn

If only when turning one direction, could be bad CV shaft or wheel bearing. Put it up on stands and turn wheel by hand to see if you can isolate noise.

Does the universal joints on the prop shaft have lubrication nipples?

if you are talking about c/v shafts, no, they are a sealed unit.if you mean drive shaft (rear) the original joints usally do not have lube fittings. if you are hearing a chripping noise the ujoints most likely need to be replaced

I have just replaced my cv joints in the front , and now there is a grinding sound when I am turning a corner?

Did you completely remove the shafts to repair/replace the cv joints. If so then one shaft may be longer than the other and binding up on cornering. Check that the wheel bearings have been properly adjusted . IF you replaced the 1/2 joint on the shaft still in the transmission the it may not have been assembled properly (cage in wrong) and this is causing a problem. Either way I suggest that you seek an accredited service shop to check out the noise before any damage is done.

Grind in Rear End

Jack up each wheel and spin it by hand. When you hear that noise that will be a very worn wheel bearing on that wheel that needs to be replaced

How much in ny to replace front end differential, horrible whaling hum from front end. did local shop cause this when seals were done last year, i heard they have to torque it properly or this damage will...

only if seals leaked out the gear lube.
you need to check the fluid level first,
and make sure your not hearing a front wheel bearing going bad, does it make the noise only in four wheel drive?
before you start worrying about price of front differential you need to locate for sure what is causing it.

Backing up very loud grinding like bearings

I would investigate the transfer case. By your description here it sounds as if the gears inside are worn and the drive chain inside is rubbing, causing the loud noise you hear.

Rear end noise

You cannot check universal joints with the driveshaft under tension. Trans needs to be in neutral (wheels blocked or on jackstands)
If diff is noisy, check gears by removing cover and checking lube for metal debris, gears for "sharpening" on edges. Generally it is cheaper to replace unit with one from a scrapyard. Any work regarding bearings or gears requires precise depth and lash adjustment or the unit will quickly fail again.
Universal joint failure will cause a "clunk" when engaging reverse or drive and also can cause vibration similar to out of balance tires. Worst case is a rhythmic squeak while going about 10-20mph.
