It has to do with the cartridge carrier. The "window" says "carrier stall, press power button." Ok, I did. the carrier slides ( rapidly with a bang ) to the left and nothing I do, will bring it back to the right side. Usually when you open the cartridge door, the carrier moves to where the ink cart. can be changed. ( that's in other printers ). Since this one is dramatically stalled to the left, it won't move at all. I took out the cartridges, no diff. I just got this yesterday, used.....and apparently broken. Any suggestions before I recycle it? I hate to give up on it. Kath

I'm whining here. I'm in Ketchikan, Alaska, and everything has to be sent priority mail, so I'm just going to have to wait. No Lotto here either....

We can keep commenting if you want, or you can ignore and move on......your call.

More gripes.....even if it's next to free, shipping would be about 50.00.... Ok venting done.

  • kath1948 May 10, 2009

Any H.P......least expensive , even refurbished in Amazon or anywhere. I'm still looking too. Shipping will probably be more then the All In One.

Thank YOU Muzzi for the offer, I better just forget it till I get a paycheck or two under my belt.

You helped a lot......Have a good week ahead.

Yes Muzzi was very helpful and cordial. I didn't like the end solution, but that's my problem, not his; a new printer.

    Thank YOU again Muzzi :-)

I have the cover open on my canon pixma mx410 cannot seem to figure out how to get the old balck ink cartridge out??

Is the power on? Close the cover (lower the scanning unit by raising it first then let it down gently) and make sure the all-in-one is plugged in. Then turn it on with the power button. Wait for the unit to stop its warm-up and self-test then reopen the cover. The cartridge carrier should move to the installation/replacement position.

Then pinch and lift up on the lid of the right side cartridge cover. (The cover is an angled piece with one side going down into the front of the cartridge carrier; you need to press in enough to get the tab to unlock from the carrier.) Now lift up the current black cartridge.

Unwrap the new cartridge and remove the orange tape. Carefully place the new cartridge into the slot without squeezing it or banging it against the sides of the cartridge slot. (The label should be up and towards the center of the printer.) Then push the locking cartridge cover down until it snaps into position. (Make sure that it is fully down.)

Then close the cover again.

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(if the cartridge carrier doesn't move when the printer is on, try reaching over and sliding it when the printer is off. Look for foreign objects in the cartridge carrier path and remove anything (including small scraps of paper) that may block the travel. I recommend using a flashlight to check for foreign objects.)

"Print carrier stall"?

Error 0502-Carrier Stall indicates a physically blocked carrier. This condition can occur for many possible reasons. Most often, the carrier is blocked because the ink cartridge lids are open while the printer is on (Figure 1).

carrierstall.jpg
Figure 1: Open Ink Cartridge Lids

Reseat the Ink Cartridges and Make Sure the Lids Are in Place
  1. Make sure the printer is turned on.
  2. Lift the printer's front cover.

new_note.jpg Note: The ink cartridge should be in the up/loading position unless the printer is busy.
  1. Squeeze the tabs on the cartridge lids and lift the cartridge lids up. The cartridge pops up when the lid is fully lifted.
  2. Remove the cartridges.
  3. Make sure that all of the protective tape has been removed from the contacts on the ink cartridge.
  4. Replace the cartridges.
  5. Snap the lids closed.
  6. Close the printer's front cover.
  7. When prompted on the printer's LCD to choose New or Old, choose Old.
  8. Press Select.

Lexmark x4270

The 1200 error is caused by a cartridge carrier stall. This can happen if the encoder strip is out
of place.
Please follow the steps given below:
1. Turn off the All-In-One by pressing the power button. Open the control panel and cartridge access
door.
2. Gently grasp the cartridge carrier belt in the area indicated by the blue arrow and move it to the
left
3. On the back of the cartridge carrier, there is a small slot that the encoder strip fits into.
Remove the print cartridges and then gently push the encoder strip down and then back up to get it
into the slot. NOTE: If the strip is completely out of the slot, it may be necessary to move it
first forward and then back.
4. Reinsert the print cartridges and slide the cartridge carrier back to the right. Then close the
cartridge access door and the control panel and turn the All-In-One back on.
5. Did the error message return?
If Yes, continue to 'Contacting Lexmark' below.
If No, the error is fixed.

Carrier Stall is the error

Hi,
Please do the following..

To check the cartridge carrier:
  1. Unplug the printer.
  2. Move the cartridges to the left by hand and then take them out.
  3. Try to print without the cartridges in the carrier. Do you still receive a Carrier Stall error message?
  4. If not, put the cartridges back into the carrier and snap them in at the back. The message should no longer appear.
If the power light on the printer is not blinking, the error message may be caused by a communication error. Do the following:
  1. Remove any other devices attached to the USB/LPT port.
  2. Uninstall the Lexmark printer.
  3. Connect the printer directly to the PC and ensure that power is being supplied to the printer.
  4. Reinstall the printer.
Thank you....

Will not stop making this banging noise

This is problem when the encoder strip is out of place you need to follow these steps carefully :

To resolve this issue:
  1. Open the front cover of the printer and locate the encoder strip. This is the thin silver/clear strip that runs across the printer behind the cartridge carrier. If the encoder strip has come out, it will cause the printer to go into a carrier stall.
  2. Remove the power from the printer and slide the cartridge carrier to the middle of the printer.
  3. Place your index finger on each side of the carriage onto the encoder strip.
  4. Slightly push it down and back up to get the strip back into the slot. (On the back of the cartridge carrier, there is a small slot that the encoder strip fits into.)

NOTE ::: Please do it gently do not break the strip or it cannot be used again...

System error 000 carrier stall Presss power Key

Does carriage bash against side when power up? if so encoder strip is dirty or incorrectly seated... plastic strip inside printer lines on it 1cm wide, must sit vertical in slot on carriage

Might be somethin stopping print head from moving along rail, check ink carts are installed correctly and fully, check for paper squashed up left and right inside ends of printer. make sure carriage moves left and right

Try power up without cartridges and just black and just colour cart to eleminate cart faults does error change?
