Whirlpool gold French doors freezer in the bottom it's making a knocking or rattling sound like it's coming from the back panel in freezer open freezer it stops close it starts

SOUNDS LIKE YOUR FAN MOTOR IS EITHER LOOSE OR THE MOTOR IS ABOUT TO GO OUT(NOISE INSIDE COULD BE GEAR IN MOTOR GRINDING WHILE WORKING) it stops when you open the door which shuts off he fan motor to help prevent loos of refrigerated air.

My fridge knocks when running

Your fridge's compressor motor is suspended inside the compressor housing on three or four springs. These springs are designed to hold the motor load in a vertical position. Transporting a fridge on it's side can stretch or break these springs which can cause a shudder stop condition (the fridge makes a shuddering banging noise everytime the compressor stops and sometimes when it starts).

It's a good idea to let a fridge sit for a bit anytime it is moved. Over night won't hurt but an 8-10 hours is more than enough time some say less.

the internet consensus seems to be that you should limit the amount of time the unit is not upright. And as stated above, leave it upright at least overnight before starting it. Apparently damage can arise from mixing of lubricant and coolant, so damage is more likely in an older unit with worn seals.

I have a Kenmore Coldspot model 106. When the motor kicks on, there is an extremely loud a knocking noise which continues until the motor stops. What is the problem? Can I fix it without buying parts?

the compressor has a spring loaded base that with time wears out and will make a knocking noise when starting or especially when turning off. some Tecs say its not much to worry bout other then the noise not sure where I stand on that issue though.

GSL25SFRFBS KNOCKING AND NOT COOLING

If your knocking sound like like a ding of a bell and then stop once started and rings again when it stops, the internal compressor motor mounts have come loose. These mounts are just spring mounts that are pressed into the bottom of the motor and if the refrigerator during handling or shipment has been bounced badly, these spring mounts can become loose. These other cause for knocking is the comressor shaft probably sheared. This is a rare occurance but I have found it and it could explain the not cooling. If your refrigerator is inside of the warranty call the toll free number and pay the minimal charge and have factory trained technician install an new compressor and filter drier (pencil drier/filter). If it is not inside the warranty period, the cost to repair the refrigerator will normally cost more than simply replacing the unit with an new one.

Side by side clanking and knocking

Hi,
Of ten times the clanking and knocking is because of a broken compressor mount...the best thing is to try to fasten it down some other way or replace the whole compressor. the torque of the motor starting and stopping has broken the mount. This will also break the refrigerant piping if it is not fixed soon.

Many times a freezer and/or refrigeratordo not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many otherthings that can go wrong. If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out thelast two tips.

If your refrigerator is running but warm, then...

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to starttrouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then callinga repair person to do a simple thing for you...

GE Profile making knocking noises at different times

I have the GE profile Refrigerator with ice maker in the refrigerator compartment. Mine was knocking loudly for long periods of time, so I finally removed the icemaker by removing the side panel in the icemaker compartment held with 1 phillips head screw, disconnecting the electrical plug (unclip), pulling the tab of the icemaker down (on top) and sliding it toward the door, thus removing it. There was ice frozen in the motor compartment that was the problem. I let it thaw out and re-installed. All was OK after that..

Knocking noise occurs about 20 seconds after compressor starts. Sounds like someone knocking on a wood door. It last about 8-12 knocks and then stops. It does not occur everytime the compressor starts but...

its Freon expansion at the part where the lines come in to the evaporator in the freezer its a nuisance but supposed to be normal go to your local appliance parts and ask for some sound damping pads and wrap them around the lines where they come into the evaporator lots of times this stops it
