Need to locate the defrost timer. do you know where it is located?

its in the control panel in the fresh food (ref, not freezer) compartment where the thermostat is and it isn't a older style timer yet the defrost control is intergrated into the control board. See the picture for the link i have attached and it will be item #6

Your model does not have a defrost timer, but a control board. The board is located on the back of the fridge behind an access panel.

Whirlpool Gold freezes up to frige side

If freezer is icing up, you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

Freezer cycling on and off, will freeze then thaw out

You have a defrost timer that has possibly slowed down because it is defective. I need you to time the defrost timer or turn the defrost timer inside the fresh food compartment until the refrigerator compressor stops running. It should remain off for about 20 minutes. If a lot longer and the refrigerator does not defrost regularly about 3 times a day then it needs to be replaced. Yes there could be something other than the timer, but if you need my help I'm here let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Our Whirlpool SVF15NRHW01 does not defrost it just ices up

Your refrigerator has a defrost timer and this could be the problem. It appears to be inside the refrigerator. Locate and try to turn the timer slowly clockwise until it clicks and compressor stops. The refrigerator should remain off for 20 to 30 minutes and the freezer heating element should come on. The sound of crackling in freezer indicates ice cracking and beginning to melt. Let me know what happens, Thanks, Sea breeze.
