Sounds like a intermittent problem with the defrost timer. Sometimes they get stuck. Check continuity of the defrost heater and defrost thermostat. If both are good then replace the defrost timer, that should solve the problem.

Let's Try turning the defrost timer clockwise slowly. 67001036 Defrost Timer The defrost timer is item location 12 in this photo HERE and there should be a hole with a plastic plug covering the hole that you place the screwdriver through. Turn timer with a flat head screwdriver slowly until the compressor and fans stop. With fans and compressor stopped for up to 30 minutes the defrost heater should come on. If doing this causes the defrost to take place simply replace the defrost timer. If not then please let me know and I will instruct you on how to change the=> 67001794 Defrost Heater Assembly and the 12001937 Defrost Thermostat Thanks Sea Breeze

Bad defrost timer

The defrost timer is bad when the frig goes into defrost and stays off the frig should restart if you turn the timer, the frig will run fine until the timer cycles back to defrost then the frig will not restart. If this is what happens, replace timer and your problems are solved.

Unit stopped running. T-stat just makes a clicking sound

Are you sure its the thermostat that is clicking and not the compressor. IF the click is comming from inside the frig it is the thermostat, but if its comming from the rear of the frig its the compressor.
If its the thermostat thats clicking you can unplug the frig and remove the thermostat and jump the two wires together and plug the frig back in to see of the compressor comes on. If it comes on, replace the thermostat.
If it doesn't come on check to see if you have current to the compressor. If no power to the compressor check to see of the frig is stuck in defrost. Locate the defrost timer and advance one click and observe if the frig comes on. If the frig comes on at this point replace the defrost timer.

Ice forming on back of freezer , refrigerator side not cooling GE modelgss22wgpe bb

You frig is not going through the defrost cycle. Locate the defrost timer and advance it to the defrost cycle.(one click). Empty the freezer and remove the rear panel. See if the defrost heater is starting to get hot. Located at the bottom of the evaporator. If getting hot, replace the timer. If not getting hot, unplug the frig and check the resistance across the defrost timer(should be a closed curcit when cold) and across the heater. If "0" resistance, replace heater.
When replacing the heater alwarys replace the defrost thermostat at the same time. Will save you work in the near future.

Refrigerator not cooling

It could have one of several problems. Is ice blocking the passage from the freezer to the frig? If so, then the problem is, it is not defrosting.

Or it could be it is not turning on after defrosting.

Either case would be a bad defrost timer. You can turn that with a screw driver till it clicks and see if anything happens.

There is a defrost timer, under the frig, accessible from the front. You can turn it with a screw driver. Turn it till you hear a click. If the timer hasn't been turning, that should turn on the defroster, a heating element nested among the freezer coils. Wait half an hour and if it is defrosting, water should be dripping into the drip pan underneath the frig. If so, then replace the defrost timer and you're good to go.

Or if turning the timer makes the compressor come on, then replace the timer.

If the timer is working, then perhaps the problem is the defrost thermostat, in with the freezer coils. When the frig defrosts, the defrost heater stays on until the defrost thermostat gets warm. It should be open circuit while warm. But if it is open circuit while cold, it is bad.

If you open up the freezer coils, use a hair dryer to defrost. That is safer than hot water.

Hope you can fix it.

Refrigerator not cool

I don't know this particular frig, but evidently the defroster doesn't work. Frost buildup has blocked the flow of cold air.

If that doesn't make it defrost, then the problem is probably the defrost thermostat, in with the freezer coils. But if it is open circuit while cold, it is bad and is the cause of your defrost problem.
