Yes AVG 7.5 is good.  So's Panda Titantium Antivirus.  You should have spybot search and destroy which is free by the way.  Stay away from Mcafee and Norton, I don't care for them @ all!  Here are a few links and they are all free.

Lenovo 3000 J 115 desktop running 32bit, XP, SP3. Is infected with phony "MS Remove Tool" spy/malware, which has taken over most operations. Can't back up any files to CD--computer tells me...

I suggest we scan your computer in Safe Mode with Networking. Please tap F8 button as soon as you turn the computer ON( I mean when you press the power button), then a list of available options will show up, please use the arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight Safe Mode with Networking. Then push Enter. Once you access Safe Mode with Networking. Please go to this link:
Download and install that software then scan the computer. After running a full scan, it will ask you to reboot the computer. Just let it boot up, no need to tap f8 this time, you will be booted to your normal windows. That should fix it
Hope this helps.

I have a spi 2gb mp3 player and have lost the software disc i cannot find anything online to help me and the tech support for the spi site goes to an unbought site for this is ridiculous. win 7...

Try another computer (if available) to see if the player is reconised by that one. If it is reconised, there may be something wrong with your computer (windows should still reconise the device as a mp3 player, but would not be able to open it without the drivers). If you can't try another computer, try a linux live cd (I recomend Ubuntu the live cd will not modify your computer unless you tell it to. To use the live cd insert it in the cd drive, reboot and in the bios menu select boot from cd. Using the live cd will allow the computer to run linux (another operating system) without installing it, meaning that you won't need to worry about iharming your computer. I reccomend this because if you use the live cd, you will have a different OS looking at the device, like having a fresh set of eyes, and it may be able to open the player (Ubuntu has great driver support).

It sounds like you were tricked into downloading a malware infection, this will usually include a few trojans as well.

Please do not assume that because a website tells you you need something that it is true, or you will be getting lots of these kinds of infections.

Removing this infection is not something a novice can do you will need to take the machine to a professional.
