Question about Compaq Presario X1000 Notebook
DVD ROM drive clicks, hard drive light blinks, system does not boot. screen is blank, no bootup splash screen.
Removed DVD ROM clicking stopped. System will not boot. Continuous HD light blinking on front of case.
Removed HD and copied files to other laptop. Drive seems good.
Wondering if this is a Motherboard issue. How can I test to be sure? Where would I be able to get another MB if it is bad? Is it worth it for this age PC?
Thanks In Advance.
The video card will overheat on these models if the fan is not on or something is blocking the intake on the bottom like clothing, bedding or pillow. When the card finally fails, everything will look normal but nothing will display on the screen or at the VGA connector on the back of the laptop. The video card has to be repaired or replaced. If you get video from the VGA connector, then the inverter in the screen is most likely defective...you can tell by closely looking into the dark screen to see if there is a faint, and I mean faint, image. In this case the inverter will need repair or replacement.

Yes sounds like the board has gone out on you.
You will have to watch ebay for a board. I just searched and nothing except batterys and keyboards are available.
