Adjust number of rings before answering

Is it possible to afdjust the number of rings before the fax machine cuts in? I have a brother model 920 fax machine on the same line as a conventional phone and answering machine. The fax cuts in after only one ring, usually before a human can get to it or before the answering machine cuts in.
