Question about Sharp R-1210 Microwave Oven

Open Question

Not working properly

Hello, I am a ex-oven/mw repairman for Sears. I have a Sharp R-9A20 Convection MW. Ir works fine on mw, but after you preheat the Convection, it switches to MW and of course, burns the food. I might be doing something wrong, but I have no owners manual. After the convection oven preheats, I punch in the time, but apparently, I'm instead setting the time for the mw. Do you have a line on a manual? My other thought is it could be the control board, but I don't know if it is avail anymore, or if I can get it repaired. I know Sears uses a place to repair them, but I don't remember the contact information. Thaqnks

Chances are your thermistor is defective.

This UK model is probably similar to the US model R-930 or R-820.

We have both service manuals at our site and while the part numbers will not necessarily be the same, they will be handy for safety, disassembly and troubleshooting. They are here and here.

When you're ready to order parts, visit Sharp UK for spares dealers and servicers.

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for maybe an hour.

Then let us know if the hard reset does not fix it.

You may have a bad keypad.

I would first suspect the thermister (thermistor) or a low line voltage, weak control board relay etc.

But the service manuals will show you how to safely disassemble, test and repair the unit.

We have the service manuals for this model and have uploaded them to our site here and here to help you.

You will need the
free Acrobat Reader to view or print them in case you don't have it.

The best place to order parts for this brand is Encompass (formerly Tritronics). Or you can call them toll-free at 866-779-5835.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number) for more information & help.

This is a problem in one of the damper-related components, either the switch or motor or the damper door may be binding.

The damper is a door inside that opens or closes depending on cooking mode. If the controller senses that the door is not in the right position, it will shut down the cook cycle.

Sharp models stop after 59 seconds.

See the attached sample photo for a typical damper assembly.

SOURCE: Sharp R-930 convection/microwave works fine in all

For that problem I would check the sensors. If the sensorblock is faulty, it will think it is hot when cold etc.
Hope this helps.

A loud humming noise in microwave mode will usually be a shorted high voltage diode or bad magnetron.

Welcome to Fixya Support,
It seems to be problem with panel and before concluding make sure that your Micro Owen Power supply cables and power outlets are working or not. If all are working fine,it is deffinately problem with HV powersuply and Magnetron.

Yes there is.

Unplug the MW.
Uninstall from wall mount (if installed that way.).
Remove outer cover by removing the screws at back and (possibly) bottom sides.

Locate fuse. Replace only with an equivalent type and amperage.

You can test the MW without reinstalling or putting the outer covering back on.

Sharp carousel II microwave/convection oven

The question is... Do you want to put money on a 18year MW, or put it towards a new one? I must admit I love the SHARP Combo MW Convection ovens. I own two. One is almost 25years old. The mechanical Timer Type, but they work great and I can maintain them with 30years ef exrerience. I am now retired.
It does sound like the Magnetronhas broken down, however it could be other things in the Secondary (High Voltage Side). The High Voltage Side is made up of the Secondary HV side of the High Voltage Transformer, A High Voltage Diode, a High Voltage Capacitor, and the Magnetron. The High Voltage Side is DANGEROUS, and CAUTION should be taken to protect yourself against EXTREME HIGH VOLTAGE. unplug from power and DISCHARGE High Voltage Capaciton to frame GROUND before touching anything!!!!
