Question about Targus AMU18US Mouse

1 Answer

Any solution for apple wireless mouse not able to scroll-happens frequently-I do all the usual things, ie: cleaning scroll ball with a toothbrush, alcohol, etc. Works for a while, sometimes an hour, day, week and then again will stop. Apple will do nothing about it. Any thoughts? Have thought about getting a Targus wirelesss mouse with optical scroll function.

If you're having issues with a "mighty mouse" let me tell you that no matter how well you clean it, the problem will continue. If you can't get a free replacement from Apple, the best experience for us at my office has been to move to Logitech bluetooth mice. Logitech V270 Cordless Optical Bluetooth Mouse works great and you have all the functions you need like scrolling, right and left click, etc.

Did you take the ball out and clean it and everything it touchs internally?? Dust tends to build up in it and makes it go where you dont want.

Your little ball is dirty. Q-tip and rubbing alcohol to clean it up. You will need to move it around with one finger while cleaning it. Be sure to disconnect it first.

remove the battery cover and batteries, spray compressed air through the two plastic lids (use precision hose included), so that air passes into and clean dust and dirt.
Then clean the scroll ball with a piece of cotton cloth moistened with water.

The mouse will not scroll down consistently. It seems as if the grey rollerball needs to be cleaned??

This is a common issue with this mouse - but thankfully it's very easy to remedy.
Get some heavy duty kitchen roll or that heavy paper towel they use in washrooms. Moisten it and fold it double. It should be damp - not wet.
Invert your mouse and make sure the ball is in contact with the paper.
Now, in your best imitation of a little kid scribbling, go wild for 10 or 20 seconds. Turn your mouse back the right way up, plug it in an see what happens.
Some folks use toothbrushes, lighter fuel and other such remedies. I just use the paper - and have done successfully on scores of misbehaving Apple mice.
The problem will always come back but now you know what to do.

The scroll button does not work: it scrolls up, but won't scroll down.

this is very common with these and something I have found myself. The ways to try and clean are to turn the mouse upside down and while it is clicked in, rub in the mouse ball in all directions and you should feel some dirt dislodge.

Alternatively you can wet a lint free cloth and do the same action. There are usually mixed results for this but at the momment this is the only way to at least try and fix it.

Usually rubbing the scroll ball upside down allows the dirt to fall out.

Good luck

(as an alternative small way around this, space bar does scroll down in macs but I know this is not ideal, but what I am stuck with at the mo!!)

Rollerball on Wireless mouse keeps getting gummed up. Cleaning done frequently but need to open mouse to get inside cleaned ?

The Apple wireless mice aren't made to be disassembled, not even by techs. If you disassemble it to clean it, you must glue it back together.
The best way to clean the rollerball is to remove the batteries and roll the ball upside down on a cloth soaked in alcohol. Be sure to roll the ball alternately depressed and not depressed for the best cleaning, and roll it in all directions.
When this no longer works, you can either attempt to clean the ball yourself at your own risk, or purchase a new mouse.

Scroll Button does not work

Take the mouse off of the computer. Turn it upside down on a piece of clean printer paper, so that the scroll ball is touching the paper. Roll it around briskly on the paper. This will help clean off the scroll ball.

Mighty Mouse won't scroll down

I have had the same problem on occasion.  I found that if I turn the mouse over and tickle it...  It works!  Only kidding...
Turn the mouse over, push down hard so the ball is depressed, and move it vigorously in all directions.  That usually dislodges whatever is trapped inside.
